New Stadium

Zips Win!

I just got back from visiting the new field/stadium on the campus of Case Western Reserve University. What an awesome site! The architects of this stadium did a brilliant job. Now, I know it helps to be endowed out the ying-yang, but worth stopping into see. (Euclid Ave. and E115th Street.) Boy am I jealous and now ready for some football.

Anyway, they built a new turf field (surrounded by a track) in the middle of new residence halls and a parking deck.

These multi-million dollar 6-floor red brick residence halls extend from a portion of the north endzone along the entire west sideline curling around the entire south endzone. The east sideline has as its barrier a brand new parking deck. A portion of the north end zone in open.

The stands, looking to seat approx. 4,000 fans, run the lengh of the parking deck, about 1/3 of the way up.

What a neat idea- a way to get the student body involved, many can look out their window to watch on one side, and you can park you car and walk 30 feet to your seat on the other.----And when you walk "inside", you get the feeling you are in a huge stadium-surrounded by the buildings.

It's been 21 years for me--we need something like this on a much larger scale.

So when will the new stadium be built? 6 months ago I was attacked for asking for a source when someone said it is already a done deal.

6 months later, and still no news on anything. You would think if it was a done deal that long ago, it would be public by now..

Add a new stadium to what we have going on now, and we will be the top team in the MAC, and hopefully move to a new conference.

Hey BUCKZIP, that new conference you mentioned sounds interesting, are you projecting or do you have some inside info? Right off hand I can't see what conference we could compete in even if JD does the job we all expect. There aren't a lot of conferences between the MAC and Big East &/or Big 10/11. :D

With ball ammunition lock and load.

 Have you been talking to Kit-Kat on the MAC board?

You both have illusions of future grandure and a disdain for a conference we have just started to seriously compete in. Kit-Kat would love for Ohio to move to C-USA or form a new BCS conference with some BE teams, but has yet to make a rational arguement for it. He's often quoting the size of Marshall's 40 or 50,000 seat stadium as if that makes their team better. (The've really fallen off this year!) Remember, it's not the size of your stadium but the quality of your team that counts, aka Bowling Green pre-season rank #24.

I really can't see Akron moving anywhere, period.

We worked too long to get into the MAC and establish a rivalry with Can't. MAC football IMHO is the best all-round mid-major football conference, and we got our a**es pasted when we were an independent. MAC basketball is even better, and the Zips are about to emerge as a top tier team.

Where would we go? C-USA deminished greatly with the recent conference realignments. Monetarially and logistically it makes no sense to join a less competitive conference that is so spread out. The Sun-belt is the bottom of the stack, and the other mid-majors are located out west. The only forseable option is the Big East. We could serve as a natural rival to Cincinasty, but I just don't see the BE expanding their football roster, and they have too many bb schools as it is.

Then again maybe the Big10little11 will come calling for us to fill that 12th spot!

Bottom line, the MAC is the best fit for the ZIPS. We should enjoy the natural geographic rivalries and increasing national exposure this conference provides. I would challenge anyone to "realistically" prove otherwise! JD and better facilities will take this program far, but there's no place like home.

better ingredients

better football

Why the hell is anyone here talking about moving to a different confrence! The best we've done is tie for the MAC East Crown (and not go to the championship game). Sorry folks, we are, at best, considered an AVERAGE MAC team. Toledo has been kicking A$$ for years now and they aren't going anywhere. Lets revisit this discussion when it is appropriate, in about 10 years.:rofl:

Let's be clear. The time to discuss this matter will be NEVER. The MAC is a good conference with good competition. Away games are typically a day trip for fans. It's perfect. This is where we belong.
