ESPN's Soccer recruiting tracker shows that Akron has received a verbal from midfielder Reinaldo Brenes of IMG Academy. He plays for the Costa Rican national youth team.I believe that means that we only have one more scholarship to give.
Thanks, Zach! I'm glad someone else is taking an interest in the upcoming futbol classes.I've mentioned Eriq Zavaleta, class of 2010, often. No verbal for him, could he be a 2011? Looking even FURTHER down the road, did you see the US Development Academy Friendlies over Thanksgiving weekend? That center back from Amherst, OH looks absolutely incredible. Andrew Souders --- he doesn't turn 16 till Feb 2010. First US Youth player from Brad Friedel's Premier Academy, apparently has gone over to Crew Academy, and is now in his first semester at Bradenton Residency.Check out the new (post-U-17 World Cup) Bradenton roster.http://www.socceramerica.com/index.cfm?fus...p;art_aid=34123

heh, funny that you mention that soccer academy. It is actually built in my hometown of Lorain, OH but the kids are sent to neighboring Amherst for schooling. I hope to hear about kids from there considering Akron.

So the Premier Soccer Academy is a residential program, eh? Wonder if Brad makes enough at Fulham to provide scholarships. :D

Here's a quote from the IMG Academies website:IMG 3, McLean Youth Soccer 0Brenes’ goal to open the scoring on match day 2 was one of the most impressive that I have seen in youth soccer. It had the sound of cannon going off, the speed of a missile and the accuracy of a laser beam. I rarely celebrate goals but this one brought me to my feet. The future is B)

I know Fulham has been home for several Yanks, but Brad's been with Villa since the beginning of the 2008-2009 season (and Blackburn for 8 years before that). This year he is playing as well as ever. I'm guessing he's making more now that he did at Blackburn also, so perhaps he does "kick in" to the Academy :D

Okay, okay...I admit it. I get Fulhamerica and Villa, with their Clevelander owner and two Yanks named Brad in net (Guzan taking back-up to the St Edwards grad) mixed up. At least I don't get Arsenal confused with say, Chelsea or the Devils. Gooners and Villa are the ones those two will be chasing shortly.(It struck me over the weekend that I wrote Fulham for Villa, as I was watching Villa put away Hull City. I knew someone would get me on that one before I could nimbly correct my error. Should have known it would be JZ. I humbly bow to your expert knowledge of all things EPL and Futbolisto in general)

Here's some highlights of Reinaldo Brenes(#20) when he was at IMG Academy in 2008-2009 season.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t-kqX4d9U78...feature=channelhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=75jIPAJp0Fk...feature=relatedhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sEKXLxgOdQk&NR=1he's coming to Akron in the Class of 2010...question is....would he be a better fit at Gavin's spot, or Bunbury's spot...I guess that's Caleb Porter to decide now...personally, i think he be a great midfielder at Gavin's spot...

Mele Kalikimaka to you Z.I.P. and Merry Christmas to all on ZN  I just happened to get lucky on this one. My cable company has fortunately carried Fox Soccer Channel just about from its inception. So the EPL just happens to be a niche of mine. I would still defer to either yourself or w00t (and others I'm sure) for all-around futbol knowledge.

Another recruiting offer appears on the Caleb Porter thread over on Big Soccer. Chicago area defender, choosing between Akron, Princeton.http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/highs...0,3013773.storyBTW, if you get a chance, you should take a look at what's up over there. They have some pretty big schnozzes stuck in the air. http://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/showthread....9550&page=7Say, who on here is the REAL UAEngineering anyway? :P
