A new coaching staff at the University of Akron has received verbal commitments from a pair of Staten Island football players as part of its rebuilding project, while a third will head off to a familiar destination. Tottenville senior Marvin Staten and 2008 Curtis graduate Micklos Blake accepted scholarship offers from Akron after taking their official visits this past weekend

Not sure what to make of them, hard to find any solid information. ESPN gave Staten a 40 grade. Can't find much on Blake. Temple did offer Staten though so Golden saw something in him.

Blake is a JUCO transfer from Nassau Community College. When I lived in the dorms several eons ago I had a buddy on the Zips who was also a transfer from this same school.One thing that seems to be evident early on. The staff is drawing recruits from a wide ranging geographic area.

Those numbers are from 2008. I am sure he has grown since then. If you are expecting BCS type players this season you are crazy.

I'll be happy if we can do the basics, run the football, stop the run, punt the ball with hang time, make a 40 yard FG. Everything after that is a bonus.

Improved special teams alone would bring a couple of wins more this year. I can't believe those guys were on scholly.

Yea, i sure we all hope that is wrong.... but then again, his height,weight an 40 time doesnt determine how much heart he has...... just read about the article on here about college players being undersized and under estimated, and they give specific mention to former akron zip Chase Blackburn.
