Z.I.P. Posted September 24, 2005 Report Posted September 24, 2005 Can ANYONE out there explain what occurred this week? The MAC office makes the official announcement: The vaunted Mastodons of Indiana-Purdue-Ft Wayne, the longest name in the NCAA (outside of IUPU-Indy?) are declared the newest member of the league for men's soccer (and men's tennis only?) -- and oh yeah, your team plays them tonight in their first league match ever. Talk about cutting through red tape! And also: Is anyone watching the UConn-St Johns game?? Near the end of the half they showed the NSCAA top-25, and...where was Akron? I did NOT see them on that list, when they should have been just ahead of St John's at #7, I believe. AND...If St John's plays against us the way they're playing tonight, I predict we kick their butts. They have NO finishers. If anyone attends the game between the Lady Zips and the Emus of Ypsilanti, let me know if that freshman starts in goal for the Emus. She should be getting shell shock by now. In Hawaii, the two opponents she faced put about 75% of their shots-on-goal in the back of the net. Get the ball in the box and let it fly! Go Wahine and Kane Zips! Quote
zipper Posted September 24, 2005 Report Posted September 24, 2005 According to GoZips.com, men won 4-0, women lost 2-1. I know Kentucky is also in the MAC for soccer, but don't know why. Quote
zipalong Posted September 24, 2005 Report Posted September 24, 2005 IUPU-FW (Indiana University/Purdue University at Fort Wayne) now to be known as IP-FW probably saved our Zip Soccer program from having to hope at the end of a season of getting into the College Cup as a wild card, because they increased our MAC soccer members to six teams. Kentucky left the MAC as an affiliate member to join another, so that left only 5 teams in the MAC. The MAC has an automatic bid in the NCAA College Cup for this year, but no guanentee beyond with only five members. IF you read about all the changes in conferences regarding basbetball, then you should have picked up on this item! I was quite concerned about how our ZIPS would fare with Kentucky moving on, now I feel relieved. We have no men's tennis, we hardly have a women's tennis program--no locker rooms for the athletes, no courts on campus, or any real plans of having any in the next decade or so, a coach who receives a part-time coaches salary; administration keeps the team because of Title 9, but really doesn't support it, just wants the numbers. That also holds true for Riflery, 75% of the team are female. They are consistently in the top 15-20 in the country, but what support do they receive? If you go on GoZips.com you won't be able to find a current schedule of matches, or even who the current members are, our Sports Information people don't sem to have the time or concern regarding this matter. The SI who had it last year wasn't concerned or took the time to do anything about it either: he no longer has a job, but I'm sure this lack is not the reason he is no longer on board. Let's think about football too, why have 13 teams, because by adding Temple the hope is of getting basketball in the future! Before anyone make a statement, do a little scouting on the 'net, it's easy and one can learn alot. I generally don't reply to anything because it seems to me to be so much garbage and not worth my time, so I just shake my head and smile to myself, but I felt compelled to do so at the time. Go Zipsin soccer, football and riflery too. Quote
