Zipsrifle
OK got to start out with this observation. Anybody else thinking about taking up Biathlon after watching the olympics 'cause I sure am?! I really got the shooting bug back after watching that! I've got the shooting thing down, and I need to lose a few lbs. The problem is I don't know how to X-ski and then finding time. Anyway, the Zips shot the WIRC and had an amazing jump in their air scores. Back in the day, we were happy to top 1500, these guys crushed that score putting up an impressive 1552 out of 1600. They won Air and came in 3rd in SB. I don't know if there was an overall champion, but Akron, overall, would have come in 2nd. Hope the team can get back to routinely beating the Buckeyes in both guns.NEWS RELEASE--------------------------------------------------------------Akron Rifle Takes Conference Title AgainStein and Benjamin set the pace and shatter school record! The stage was set. All season long the Akron hotshots had been running neck to neck with Ohio State and Morehead State of KY. The monthly postal scores fired by each team showed results usually separated by a mere hand full of points. Going into the shoulder to shoulder WIRC championship match this weekend in Michigan, OSU was the favorite with Akron and Morehead about even for second. When the last shot was fired, the targets scored and tabulated, Akron walked away with a surprising and well earned air rifle conference title. In the air rifle division this championship was all Akron. OSU’s Amanda Furrer (392) took top gun immediately followed by Akron’s best, consisting of sophomore Ryan Stein (391), sophomore Sarah Benjamin (390), and junior Brittany Jones (388). The performance by Stein equals the school record in the 40 shot competition and is a new career high score for Stein. Two other Zips, freshman Adam Auclair (373) and sophomore Alissa Martin (375) contributed with new career high marks. The excitement continued to build to the boiling point as the Zips soon learned they absolutely destroyed the nearly two year old school team of 1537 with an unbelievable 1552! This incredible effort by the Zips was enough to upend OSU and bring home another conference championship. In the smallbore rifle division the favored OSU lived up to the expectation by winning this portion of the conference championship. OSU’s red hot freshman Amanda Furrer maintained her Olympic reputation with an unreal 589 out of a possible 600. Morehead’s junior Elizabeth Lyon (575) took second and Akron’s sophomore Sarah Benjamin (573) earned the number three slot. At the end of the day, the Western Intercollegiate Rifle Conference sponsored the annual awards banquet at the Michigan State University shooting center. Akron shared the spotlight with many Zips earning high honors as listed below. This contest promises to be a high scoring and fiercely fought battle as the top ranked US Naval Academy will be defending their MAC conference title against the number two ranked Zips. But then again, Akron is quite familiar with what it takes to come out on top. The decision will be made March 6th starting at 8am.

HELL NO!!! it's hard enough shooting without purposely elevating my pulse. not to mention i couldn't hold on target while sucking pond water. in the summer and in warmer areas people do summer biathlons which are running, not skiing. basically it's a marathon with shooting breaks. you might be able to find one of those. MDZip
So what happened to our NCAA champ from last year? I hardly ever hear her mentioned any more.
zippyrifle32
So what happened to our NCAA champ from last year? I hardly ever hear her mentioned any more. she's still shooting and putting forth mediocre to respectable air scores. she got real hot at the end of last season, however this year in order to even qualify to go to the ncaa's you had to shoot better than her national title score to get an individual invite. THAT'S how high the bar is this year.
