Dr Z
Somebody PLEASE take photos and post as I will not be able to attend. The Bulls host Akron on Saturday, October 8 when the University celebrates Homecoming and Family Weekend. Activities include a pregame tent party for Alumni and families. Gates open at noon – game time is 1:30 p.m. It’s "ESPNU Day" with a football keychain giveaway and a special appearance by William “The Refrigerator†Perry who will meet fans for autographs in the West concourse. An athlete reunion and Hall of Fame weekend activities are scheduled. Fans of the hit movie Napoleon Dynamite will get to meet Jon Gries who played “Uncle Rico†and Efren Ramirez who starred as “Pedro†appearing on campus as celebrity Grand Marshals of the Homecoming Parade which takes place at halftime. The Homecoming and Family Weekend game is sponsored by Student Affairs, The UB Alumni Association, Adelphia and Star 102.5. UAM, I bet I could get at least 10 to 20 people that have NEVER been to an Akron game to the Rubber Bowl with this promotion.
Zipsrifle
There is about a 50-50 chance I'll be heading to the game. I'll be sure to take pics if I go, but they'll be rather large files.
klingon288
Taking Dr. Z's invitation to the board. Actually, Buffalo would not be a bad road trip from Akron, especially this time of year. Only a 4 hour drive. Nice weather. The leaves are starting to change. First of all, you can catch a soccer game between #2 Akron and #20 Buffalo Friday night at the football stadium. See who has the best foreigners on their team. Should be a good game on Saturday. Buffalo may finally have an offense- they moved the ball against Rutgers, even though they didn't score, and and woke up in the second half against WMU. It would still be an upset, but Buffalo could do it at home. (They're good for a win or two a year.) Wings at Duffs or the Anchor Bar, plenty of action on Chipawa Street downtown, the Canadian Ballet across the river. Even a side trip to Niagara Falls while avoiding the summer crowds. Actually, there's no reason to even buy tickets in advance. Plenty of seats still available - (hint- the stands are a long way from the field due to a track. The best seats for the game are in either upper deck).
KingZip
Why do you need a reason to go to the game? How about the Zips are playing. The most glaring problem with Zip fans is that they want someone to beg them to do something instead of just showing up because the tema takes the field. That's the difference between fans at other schools and Akron.
KingZip
10-20 extra people to the Rubber Bowl to see two, nobody actors and a fat former football player from the 80's?

Z-P
Funny Story............. I do a lot of business in the Buffalo area, so my car almost knows it's own way. Back in 99, they opened their new stadium. It really is nice..........so I drove up all by myself to see the Zips (and Butchie) play........this is where it gets sort of funny........hang on.............I asked where the visiting team busses came in so I could stand there with all the other Zip fans and wave at the guys as they came in and unloaded (pretty naive eh?)............it's on the west side at about the center backside of the stadium...........so I stood there, all by myself for about 15 minutes..........nothing, nobody...........so I figured I was probably in the wrong place cause nobody else was there.....................I was just about ready to leave, when the busses pulled up and drove right in front of me................like the dufuss I am, I waved and jumped around as they honked their horns for one lowly fan.............(3 busses) and they guys laughed and laughed.............here's one diehard fan all decked out in yellow and blue waving at them coming in to Buffalo.............must have been a shock. Where were the parents? Here's the kicker, and a lesson for UAM if we ever get an on campus stadium..........if memory serves me correctly, that was the first league game of the season...........and most likely the first home game for UB................so what they did was to force the students out of the dorms to eat, because the mealservice in the dorms was shut down and dinner was served at the stadium before the game................and they let us in and eat for virtually nothing also!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! All you had to do was tell them you were an opposing players parent (obviously we had the colors on) and we got the dorm resident deal. So all the traveling Zip parents were over there with a feedbag on! Rest of the story as Paul Harvey says.................the stadium was really packed for about the first half................then it fell back to a couple thousand fans But at least they tried. Now, I can't go this weekend, but if anyone has the time and an inkling of desire, do it. The drive is easy and the stadium can be seen right from 290 bypass north..........hell, I'll bet if you grovelled around you'd probably even get someone to pass you a free ticket. There's not a bad seat in the house either..............the higher up in the stadium you can go, the better the view. I really liked that place. Parking is super close, and there's plenty of it................sort of like at BG. Just an FYI about Buffalo.................. Oh, one more thing, everyone please leave the Cap'n alone now...............that's about enough of that crap. IMHO he's the biggest and best fan UA has and ever could attain............we're lucky he's around town................but he's got some shaky friends like Doc however....................
