ZachTheZip Posted March 30, 2010 Report Posted March 30, 2010 Facebook event Some of you already know about this, but I'll put it up in case you haven't heard. Tuesday night at 8:00 at the JAR, the Akron student athletes from every team will be putting on a talent show to be judged by a group of very prominent figures in Zips athletics including the Athletic Director. Tickets are $3 and everything goes to charity for earthquake victims. It's being organized by Zips senior futballer CJ Kaufman and the Student Athlete Advisory Committee. It should be a fun time and it could be the last chance to see some of your favorite Zips players before they graduate. It's also a possible opportunity to talk with the players and athletic officials and coaches, if you can get them cornered. Quote

But still hope a lot of people end up going. Also I think someone should start a facebook event like this for the Spring football game. I mean it will be the first at infocision stadium and could be exciting to get a lot of people to watch and support this team. Quote
ZachTheZip Posted March 30, 2010 Author Report Posted March 30, 2010 It should be entertaining. Hopefully. At least a couple of the sports teams are creative and have a good sense of humor. Akron athletics has a Facebook page, but they never actually do anything with it. They could set up an event for the spring game and invite thousands of people, far more than any grass-roots effort or the Rowdies can. But they don't, or if they do they don't give it enough time to be effective. The events page and invitations should be set up at least a week before the actual event to give people time to make plans and then respond and invite friends. Quote

Don't they realize facebook is the most visited site by college students? I would say about 10% of akron students go on Gozips.com and probably over 90% are on facebook. I guess free advertising on facebook is a bad idea Quote
ZachTheZip Posted March 31, 2010 Author Report Posted March 31, 2010 If you went, you were in for plenty of laughs. From the Golf team making fun of Tiger Woods to Softball's random road trip conversation/dance routine. Steve Swiech's re-mix of Empire State of Mind is an instant classic. If it gets put up on youtube, you have to see it. Quote
ZachTheZip Posted March 31, 2010 Author Report Posted March 31, 2010 How was the turn out? Not that bad for the first year. They raised over $750 for charity. It will become an annual tradition, so I think it will be huge in the future. Also, I think I might be attending more Swimming meets next year. Wow. Quote

ZachTheZip Posted April 1, 2010 Author Report Posted April 1, 2010 Steve Sweich, as filmed by Tim Carrol. The sound is a little muddy, so it helps if you read the lyrics as you listen. The "winning" performance by the Swimming and Diving team, parodying every sport along with the Cheerleading and Dance Teams: Quote
