Quickzips
I'm pumped about the overall result of that game, but a few questions still remain. -What is up with this team? Seriously, who the heck are we? We come out and play our hearts out against NIU for a win, then turn into giant hens for a month or so, then come out and beat BG. Has this team gotten things back together here or is this just another showcase for a Jeckle and Hyde type team? I really want some answers on this one cause I'm real confused. -Can Biggs stand up to running the ball 30+ times a game for the rest of the season? I've said it before this season and I'll say it again. We will not win if Luke is throwing 40+ times a game while Brett is running 20 or less times. We saw that today at BG. He isn't always gonna get good yardage, but if he can put together 100 yard games on the ground and average b/w 4-5 yards per carry we are going to control the clock. If we control the clock then our defense stays fresh. If our defense is fresh they are talented, but they lack depth and get tired when they've been on the field to long. Translation, if we can control the clock w/ Biggs we can win games. Question is, is Brett durable enough to carry the load for 3 more games. -What can we expect the last 3 games? Ball St. to me is a big ? mark. They have played by far the toughest schedule of any MAC team and have done so while having a large chunk of their roster suspended. This week, with their players back they went into NIU and dominated. Muncie is a tough place to play at. Can we get it through them or do we lay another egg? Ohio has been alot like us this season. Very Jeckle and Hyde type team, but they have a stellar defense. Their offense is a little lackluster, but the D is very good. Can we put together the offensive fire power again and beat them at home, or will our home fans be treated to another disappointing loss. Can't is just plain bad, if we loose to them then I don't know what I will do, but it is a rivalry game on TV. It is also a game we could overlook if we are in good position come Turkey Day and Can't still doesn't have a IA win. What do you guys think. Here is how I see it going. -Biggs carries the load again at BSU and the Zips come out with a close, but solid win. -Ohio's Defense is too much for the Zips as Biggs is tired and Getsy remains largely ineffective. Bobcats take it too us at home, sealing the deal on our loosing season at home. -Can't has nothing left to play for and plays like it. Zips, knowing that even though they will need help to win the East, if they don't win on Turkey Day they are helpless. Zips come out and take it to the Golden Turkeys and go home to a big Turkey dinner and wait to see how things shake out. Thats just my opinion. GP1
Here is why I'm encouraged about the remainder of the season. The Zips showed a lot of heart today. They could have easiy fell apart after that game last week and the slow start today and they did not. While they did not play a great game, the effort was there every play and I think that was lacking last week. This team seems more emotionally tough than in years past. The MAC is so hard to read this year, I have no idea how they will do other than say they will beat Can't. Ball State could be good next week, or they could have shot their wad this week...who knows. OU is scary right now, but let's worry about them when the time comes. Right now this team needs to focus on next week and playing hard every down like they did this week. I'm shocked Biggs had 150 + this week. There were so many one and two yard losses, it must have been rushing and receiving. Anyhow, my favorite Zip did not disappoint this week. Getsy was average again today, but all he needs to be is average when they run so well. Most importantly, he did not have a turnover and the team did not have a turnover. Great job defense. Try to get more three and outs though. I worry too much on those long drives. For those of you who did not go, you missed a great day for college football. Even though I drove myself, it looked like the University did a great job organizing buses to the games and the fans had a great time. God I love going to MAC football games! One last thing. Did anyone listen to the BG post game radio show? If so, did their coach come off as a classless a-hole, or was it me? He complained that the replays did not go their way and was taking the word of his players over the replay screen. Also, he did not give any credit to Akron for playing a good game. I just thought he came off as a jerk. Anyhow, don't forget to fall back tonight. Here's to a Zips win.
FatherandFan
Solid Game, for the Offense and Defense, the O-Line was very good. Over-all a good team WIN! Brett Biggs Is a class act.....

Also, he did not give any credit to Akron for playing a good game. I just thought he came off as a jerk. from what i saw on the bg board, their fans are starting to get negative on brandon. he's starting to have a problem on his hands and may not have a long term future at bg if he doesn't get things righted soon. i think bg is the team i love to beat the most in football now that they're back in the east and we did it at their place makes it even better. if jd can outrecruit them over the next few years this series will be a lot of fun. my hat's off to falconfreak tho since he lives near the RB and comes to our games sometimes. great to see biggs get some numbers. if our o-line was a little better he would have a lot of 100-yd games. getsy threw no INT's and only got sacked once. i only had gametracker but it was good to see us making some big plays on offense, probably because their D is so-so. great win, let's keep some momentum going now. zff
I think the only question left is can the Zips come out and play like they did vs BG. I say they can. The played ball control offense and got the timley passes when they needed it. Thye just need to tkae it one game at a time and get some help from a Redhawks lost and the Zips will be going to Ford Field.
Zipsrifle
Good game by Akron. Great day for football and I really like Doyt, and they had a good crowd. I was totally off Getsy last week, but he bounced back yesterday. He made good decisions and even tucked the ball and ran it a few times. Still had a few that bounced off the ground 5 yds in front of the receiver, but it kinda looked like he was intentionally doing that to avoid INT's. Biggs had a huge day and the D REALLY stepped up in the end. Was this the first time all year the D has had the legs to the end of the game? GREAT, GREAT, GREAT stops at the end of the games. Rohr is a beast, that guy is everywhere. I think he gets my vote for MVP this year. OL had a lot of push at the end of the game too. Solid bame by Akron, Ball State scares me. One game at a time folks. This team has two heads and I never know which one will show up. I didn't give us a chance yesterday, even with Omar out. I'm going to stop guessing which team will show up, thinking about game plans, and just watch the games.
zipsbandman
I am very worried about Ball State. Remember, this is when we are most vunerable, after wins. These guys need to stop letting it get to their heads. On the bright side, we once again are still in this thing after some troubling losses. RACER
i think the biggest thing is that we have to be able to run the ball. just like we did at the end of the game at bg. it will take alott of pressure off getsy, and open the passing game up. if we can run the ball, and don't turn it over you always have a chance of winning.the penalties though are going to cost us. i would have hoped jd would have fixed those all those problems by now. i think if we can win the next two we should have enough steam to beat Can't at home.with this team though nothing comes easy. Exactley correct. I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say that if Biggs can be effective (4ypc or more) carrying the ball 30+ times a game from here on out, Akron will set itself up to win the East. We need to do with Getsy what the Steelers do with Big Ben. Let him throw his few token passes per game just to keep the defense honest, get the ball into our good wide recievers hands occasionally, and give the RB a breather. Otherwise we need to pound the ball in there for all we are worth. As far as correcting the penalty problems I'm gonna take this one step at a time. It seems that we corrected quite a few problems this weekend, if we can keep making progress and correcting problems, the penalties will decline sooner or later. We just can't regress at this point. If we do then the Zipsnation has been set up for another stellar disappointment.
msopher
Akron fans should be proud of this win and if you can win out, I see no reason why the Zips shouldn't be at Ford Field in Dec.
