BostonZip
Delone Carter, the former Mr. Football in Ohio at Copley High School, might not be playing for Syracuse when the Orange meet the University of Akron on Sept. 4 at InfoCision Stadium in the 2010 opener. Carter, a tailback and the leading rusher for Syracuse in 2009, has been suspended from school and from the team after being arrested for assault in April. Read Tom Gaffney's article. ZachTheZip
Sucks to be suspended for the one game in your college career where you get to play in front of your family.
johnnyzip84
I've been complimentary of Tom Gaffney's coverage of the Zips in the last year or so, but he was just a tad tardy on this one. ZN Thread
GoZips
Care to bet that there is more to this than meets the eye? Suspended from school for being charged with a misdemeanor? Really? Suspended from the team is completely appropriate. Punishment to follow if convicted. But, suspended from school? Just how is Mr. Carter suppose to complete his Spring term and thus be eligible to even play football in the Fall? Something is a miss here. There is more to this than what we read. Stay tuned. Most seniors could miss a semester of school and still be eligible in the fall, especially if its a 5th year senior. A player needs to have completed about 72 hours heading into his 4th season. It's entirely plausible that Mr. Carter had already completed that requirement before missing the spring semester, or he could've taken classes at another community college for credit that would then transfer. Just because he missed the spring doesn't mean he won't be eligible.
