BirdZip
This is a few weeks old from ESPN's Summer Shootaround. Keith Dambrot, Akron: Dambrot has made the Zips a regular near the top of the MAC, a conference that consistently is underappreciated. He has coached Akron to three straight postseason appearances, including an NCAA tourney berth two seasons ago. Dambrot has emerged on his own merit instead of being known as LeBron James' first high school coach. Akron will once again be in the hunt for a bid with the likes of Can't State, Central Michigan (with Trey Zeigler) and Ohio, which had a tremendous run last season to win the MAC tournament and upset Georgetown in the NCAA tournament. Also talks about Nick Kellogg and Trey Zeigler as "10 freshmen we can't wait to see". Unfortunately, we're nowhere to be found on the "Teams to Watch" list. Quickzips
Right now it seems like nobody really knows what to make of us. We've had a lot of (unexpected?) turnover on the roster over the summer that raises some big question marks, but at the same time, KD has consistently been able to absorb roster losses and come back with another team capable of contending for the conference title. I have no doubt that we will once again be a top team in the MAC, but until we start to see how some of the new guys shake out, and how some of the veterans (particularly Zeke) have progressed it is very difficult to peg the Zips chances right now. Blue & Gold
I hate to admit this before I've even seen the team play their first exhibition game, but I'm already more excited about next year than I am about this one. And concerning the topic of this thread: KD's a great guy. Ethical. Hard-working. Intelligent. Energetic. Passionate. Bleeds Akron blue & gold. We couldn't do any better than KD. skip-zip
When you sit back and look at what Keith has done when its NOT basketball season, you have to appreciate where we are. We're now a perennial MAC East contender, with 4 straight trips to the MAC tournament final. If we matched this success in football, I think we'd all be one happy bunch of Zips fans. I'm saying this now because...once basketball season starts, I can't help but to complain about why we haven't improved our national standing by playing a harder schedule, and why we didn't win a couple more of those MAC title games. That's what happens when you start to give fans a reason to have higher expectations
