Dr Z Posted September 28, 2010 Author Report Posted September 28, 2010 Paraphrasing: -Team made strides, we were able to run the ball against the Hoosiers, we outgained them on the ground 2 to 1. -We are improving, but we need to improve on the scoreboard -We have our work cut out for us with NIU -We held Indiana to 3 yards a carry and we averaged over 5, that needs to continue to be in games in our conference -Offensive line as a whole played their best game, only 2 sacks and one was QB's fault for not stepping up in pocket -Patrick McCloskey got 15 or so snaps as a second team offensive lineman -I'm happy how defense defended the run, but we need to improve getting pressure on the QB -Happy we only have two turn overs, but we need to start to create turn overs also -Pleased with the progress of PN7, he played his best game yet, he is seeing things down field, he needs to continue to improve -NIU runner is good, he gets a lot of yards after first contact, they are committed to the run -We are not happy just to compete, we need to continue to move forward, no regressions Quote
UA Fan Posted September 28, 2010 Report Posted September 28, 2010 I wonder why we outgained them 2-to-1 on the ground? Quote

skip-zip Posted September 28, 2010 Report Posted September 28, 2010 I wonder why we outgained them 2-to-1 on the ground?Sacks?!? Yep...the sacks seem to be the answer. The back that got the majority of their carries was getting good yardage. But, I still think we are tackling a little better this year near the line of scrimmage. And our own rushing numbers were a very good bit of news. Quote
UA Fan Posted September 28, 2010 Report Posted September 28, 2010 I wonder why we outgained them 2-to-1 on the ground?Sacks?!? Oh. I was going to guess it was because they saw little need to run the ball. Quote
Dr Z Posted September 29, 2010 Author Report Posted September 29, 2010 Oh. I was going to guess it was because they saw little need to run the ball. The Hosiers had 33 passing attempts and 29 run attempts. I remember the color commentator saying something to the effect of, I'm surprised Indiana is passing so much, they need to become more effective in the running game before they start Big10 play. We should have let them run the ball a little bit better...bend, don't break; let the clock run and avoid their quick-strike passing drives. Maybe we could have kept it closer and eked it out at the end. (I'm half-kidding) Quote
