MAC Coach of the Year

Bill Cubit won the Coach of the Year award today. There is a connection with Cubit and the Zips. Early in the 90's, Cubit was the running backs coach for a couple of years under Faust. A long time ago, I posted a long post on former Akron assistants under Faust for 1987, but throughout his time at Akron, he had a ton of assistants that went on to some really good jobs. Some of the posters on this board are probably too young to really remember Faust, but he was a huge name at one point in college football. Too bad he was such a bad coach...

Faust was one of the most likable people I ever met. I came across him 5-6 times on campus during and after his tenure as coach. Every time he was addressed he would stop and talk to you. Never too busy and one hell of a guy. I also saw him at an Akron area golf course a few years after he was coach and he invited my fieind and I to join him. We abliged and and it was great to spend time with the man.

My vote for MAC Coach of the Year would have been for "Coach" JB Brookhart.

If he won the MAC Coach of the Year last season after a spectacular 6-5 record in which the Zips didn't beat ONE team with a winning record, then certainly he should have won the award this season.

Having the Zips REPRESENT the East in the MAC Championship game must not count for too much.

Go Zippers!!!!!!!!!!!!!
