UA Fan Posted December 2, 2005 Report Posted December 2, 2005 I'd say this was a great debut for JD on the national stage. I wouldn't be surprised if he starts getting "courtesy interviews" for other openings any time now. I don't think he'll jump until something really good comes along though. I really like the play calling. Great fakes, screens, misdirections, a gadget or two. Really keeps a defense guessing. Quote
Quickzips Posted December 2, 2005 Report Posted December 2, 2005 We need a full time AD STAT. Gotta get JD locked up as best we can for as long as we can as soon as we can. Quote
Ryno aka Menace Posted December 2, 2005 Report Posted December 2, 2005 I agree totally anyone who takes a team that no one is expecting to do any better than 5-7 and takes them bowling and 7-5 is definately gonna turn heads...I can't wait to see what type of recruits we get!! Quote
UA Fan Posted December 2, 2005 Author Report Posted December 2, 2005 I agree totally anyone who takes a team no one is expecting more that a 6-7 season and takes them bowling and 7-5 is definately gonna turn heads...I can't wait to see what type of recruits we get!! We may get a few "most righteous" verbal commitments any time now too Quote

I say take the guaranteed money from the bowl and put it towards a long term contract deal for J.D. I read on another post here that UA would get about $700 - $800K from the Motor City Bowl. Raise his salary to half a million, 3/4 million, or even $1M per year and lock him up for 5 years. He's worth it! At the rate he is going, there will be a few more bowl games to pay for most of that salary. Plus, I think you'll see attendance at the RB really start to boom next year. At least I hope so. If this win and a bowl berth doesn't rally more fan support, I don't know what will. Quote
Ryno aka Menace Posted December 2, 2005 Report Posted December 2, 2005 What does JB make now? Does anyone know? I disagree with giving him more money right away, he is happy to be a coach if you listen to him talk about going from Denver to Pitt to Akron. He loves coaching money is not an issue for him. Let's upgrade the stadium first to attact more recruits, you see it is already working by getting an indoor facility and upgrades to the campus. Quote
Buckzip Posted December 2, 2005 Report Posted December 2, 2005 All coahces say money isn't an issue. We also, all know they are all liars. If he continues to improve this program, there is nothing UA can do to stop him from moving on. Hopefully, we will have a new stadium, and a good name by then. Quote
a-zip Posted December 2, 2005 Report Posted December 2, 2005 a-zip Posted: Sep 26 2005, 08:00 AM Things are good, hate to bring in anything bad but................... We have a hot young coach who has shown a great talent for recruiting, motivating and strategy. What are the chances we are able to keep him long term and what would it take? OR will he be another contribution from the "Cradle of Coaches, MAC". I am not sure what his contract looks like but with all the momentum we have going in ALL sports it would be a major setback to lose him. Sure would be nice to have stability with JD and Dambrot, we could really have something! Oh yea, Mike Thomas has got to be a hot candidate too. I said before and I am going to say it again. We MUST lock up JD. Mike Thomas is already gone, Ken Lolla is signed for 5 years. We must keep good people! Build a 15-20k seat stadium with room for expansion. Put the money in the people! Quote
Wally B Posted December 2, 2005 Report Posted December 2, 2005 A couple of observations 1) Having grown up in the Akron Metro Area, attended UA, and now traveled the country and returned on numerous occasions I've come to the conclusion that Akron has a self depreciating, psedo-masicist complex. (no i did not major in psyche) We are always looking for the hammer to fall. C'mon, how many of us gave up when we were down by two touchdowns? After the late interception? This all could be a product of growing up watching the drive, the fumble, frickin MJ/Craig Ehlo, The Marlins, etc. Then again that's Cleveland and we often feel inferior to them. 2) That said, I'm not worried about JD leaving at this time. I'll wait until we have a great season and land in the top #25 at some point during the season. I believe this is coming. Also, did anyone pick up on the conversation w/ J.Taylor during the game. He said it best. "THEY are building a great program at Akron, it is finally getting the support it needed". Our priority right now is to get an AD with as big a vision as Proenza. This will ensure a quality replacement for JD if and when that time does arrive. It is far too early to assume he's already gone. 3) Stadium Issues! Yeah, the bowl needs replaced. If it isn't happening soon, proper concessions and facilities need to be constructed NOW, and replace the frickin Seats . Personally I like the layout of the bowls seating much better than any other MAC stadium. Replacing it with a Dix style layout that only seats 15-20k and looks like a glorified HS facility won't serve our purpose or match the practice facilities. the administration did a great job of getting students to the game, and i suspect they will launch an all out effort for the MCB. This is where programs are built. This is where the program becomes part of the UA culture. THis is where graduates become lifelong fans of the EVENT. It will all come............ in time. 4) ZIPPY RULES! He finally got the national exposure he deserves, looked great!, and had fun doing it! Go Zips Fear the ZIPPY and Quote
UA Fan Posted December 2, 2005 Author Report Posted December 2, 2005 Our top priority now is hiring the best possible AD. If you're a mid-major program, you want your coaches to move up...it means you're hiring good coaches. And you need a good AD to find the next good coach. Getting the stadium built will also depend heavily on the efforts of the new AD. Keep the momentum going Quote
Zipsrifle Posted December 3, 2005 Report Posted December 3, 2005 Here we go again! I think JD has been on the chopping block once this year and this is the second time he's up for a 50 year contract. Personally, I don't think he's going anywhere. I think Novak gets a call before JD. Kelly did a hell of a job at CMU this year too. What about Western's coach Cubit, or Brandon and that media darling over in BG? I haven't been able to surf much today, but I'm sure the fact that we lost to Army and Ball State is on the haters minds and will factor in to any potential seekers. Should we lock in JD for a few more years, yes. I'm sure he got a big honking bonus for winning the MACC and getting us to a bowl. If we win the bowl, he probably gets all the bonuses in his contract. I just don't think we need to worry about him leaving right now. Quote
