Well, now that we've seen the Zips against their first real opponent of the year, time to go back to eating cupcakes. Can't sleep on YSU though as they just beat Buffalo (albeit a watered down Buffalo) last night in Youngstown. How they did it I really don't know as both teams shot the ball horribly (under 39%) and Youngstown had twice as many turnovers as assists. The 'Guins out-rebounded Buffalo handily but only scored 9 second chance points and had 8 less points in the paint than the Bulls. YSU has two seniors and seven freshmen (3 of whom saw playing time last night) on the roster and nobody listed over 6'9". The Zips may have a little bit of trouble on the boards in this one, but this is really a game that KD's guys should win handily. Of course, Youngstown has been known to play the annoying little brother that just won't go away role when matched up against Akron and Can't. Can't take them too lightly, but I expect a W on Saturday night.

I think now that the players have gotten the first-game jitters out of their system and tested themselves against a real team we'll see a lot of improvement over the last game, especially from the underclassmen. It also helps that we're back home after playing in such a difficult environment.

I'd take that line in a second.

This YSU team has only three returning letter winners but they have two transfers that are getting significant time. One from UNC Greensboro and the other from some DIII school.

The problems quickzips speaks of on the boards may be due to forward Damian Eargle and Tre Brewer. They are each bringing in over 10 rebounds per game so far this season.

The other thing of note is that their biggest guy that plays is 6'8" and only 240. Their other big guys are both 6'7"/215 and one of them plays the two guard so Zeke should run wild on their "big" guys. Hell Bardo could do the same if he could make a four footer.

Sure we only return three from last year, but we stunk last year so that is a good thing. Our best players are Vytas Sulskis, Devonte Maymon, and probably Damien Eargle defensively.

We have great depth and a great attitude. Akron is a better team on paper, but don't count out YSU. Buffalo fans thought they were going to kill us, yet we beat them by 11. At one point we went on a 17-0 run in that game.

This one will be closer than that line. Go PENGUINS!!!

I hope for your team's sake it's close but realistically it wont be.

Buffalo is terrible btw, but definitely good for YSU to beat a MAC team. You just got Can't State and Akron still to go.

Trust me Zips fans you have nothing to worry about. Wednesday night may be a different story.

I'm looking forward to seeing Euton, Egner, Abreu and Diggs getting lots of PT tonight. They all need to develop quickly for the Zips to have a good season. After tonight, 4 of the next 5 games will be among the toughest of the season. For the 3 freshmen especially, it's going to be a challenge facing Cleveland State, Detroit, Temple and Minnesota over a 3-week stretch.

A lot of angry Rowdies tonight. The Band has moved from the south side to the north side seats and is taking up the entire side nearly. It's kicked out a bunch of regulars on the North side (me included). I'm not too worked up over it but a few others are. It makes you wonder why they dont just sit up top in their designated area?

Yes. They could have at least provided a warning that they were going to double in size and then kick out about 75 Rowdies from sitting down below.

If their job is to fire up the crowd then they need to move closer to the part of the crowd that actually needs firing up, not next to the group that would make noise regardless of the band's proximity.

This was a problem last year with them expanding past half way on the South side taking two seats per person... but no one threw a fit because it really didn't displace that many rowdies. Now, this is just ridiculous. I was unable to see the Dambrot shuffle because i was displaced onto the south side. Completely threw off my heckling! If the band is going to be that big, move them up top. Also, who was the smart person to put the tubas and the drumset IN FRONT OF WHERE OUR TEAM COMES OUT?!?! plus, the drumset was closer to the floor than it was on the south side... making it pretty dangerous, with the players having to navigate around it.

That was one of the worst defensive games I've ever seen the Zips play. We're lucky we were able to win playing as poor as we did. Players out of position on every defensive possession and running the stand-around offense won't win many games.
