Just because a football team is I-AA does not mean they are not a good football team and have subpar players.

They just have less players on a scholly.

The difference in the OL & DL players being I-AA is usually only 1 or 2 inches in height. They do not fit the idea size that most D1 football want for players.

The biggest difference is in team depth.

Akron is by no means the only team loss a football to a I-AA team. Just look at JaxSt/Ole Miss to name another just this year.

I was watching the Can't-OU game on TV last week and they got Lou Holtz on the phone during the game and asked him about his thoughts regarding the next Can't head coach. One thing he mentioned was all of the empty stadium seats that he saw during the game and how important it was for the next coach to reach out to the community and sell the program.

Of all the concerns with Coach Ianello, this seems like a big one. Has he done anything to reach out to the community to generate interest in his program? Does he speak to groups? He doesn't seem to have any kind of PR sense, but he could learn.

In the end, its all about winning. But it would help matters if he could get fans on board believing that better days are coming.

Id like zip fans to give the guys at 1350 a break- especially Ken Carman. Yes he talks a lot about OSU and the Browns but you know what- listen to your neighbors and officemates-thats what THEY are talking about. But give him a little credit. Hes a 24 yr old Akron grad hosting a radio show for not much money trying to make a living. If he doesnt have any listeners the show and his job are history. So he caters to what most people, NOT US ZIP FANS, but most people want to hear.Last monday he had Tom Gaffney on talking Zips for most of an hour. He did a 3hour show before the CSU game talking almost exclusively about UA. talking to Wistrcil, Dambrot, Mcneese, and Porter. They are going to do that again before future weekday basketball games. He was scheduled to have Caleb on again today. Hes had Ian from the AK Rowdies on several times. And when Ive emailed him or texted zip comments to him hes always responded or acknowledged them. Its a free country- no one has to listen to them just like no one has to buy a ticket to a sporting event at UA. I wish a few people on here would give them a call or a text. They might talk more Akron sports if they thought there was interest. As for no interviews with Ianello- Coach I didnt even make an appearance on the Zips live show tonight. which is produced by the U of A.

Nice points, InfoFan. It's odd that people on this forum seem to attack anything and anyone, unless it's their idea, of course.

The fact that Akron radio even HAS a local sports talk show is impressive and miraculous. For these so-called sports "fans" to tear down the young host and the program is inexcusable. The next step, of course, will be NO SHOW at all...and back to national syndication. But I guess these geniuses can't think two-steps ahead. That's the way it works, though.

So, to paraphrase Lee Iacocca, "lead, follow, or shut up."

Dude, if it's going to be all buckeye talk on an Akron area radio station, I say bring on national syndication.
