acstorfer Posted December 13, 2010 Report Posted December 13, 2010 I live in Broadview Heights which we get our news out of Cleveland. Barely 30 seconds coverage of the Zips national championship on the news last night, nothing on the news today. Pathetic! This accomplishment should be headline news for NE Ohio! Quote
skip-zip Posted December 13, 2010 Report Posted December 13, 2010 With all due respect to our team, it's still college soccer. I wish it was headline news all over the country for that matter. Quote
Blue & Gold Posted December 13, 2010 Report Posted December 13, 2010 I live in Broadview Heights which we get our news out of Cleveland. Barely 30 seconds coverage of the Zips national championship on the news last night, nothing on the news today. Pathetic! This accomplishment should be headline news for NE Ohio! Yup. Get used to it. The Cleveland media purposely ignores any positive news coming out of Akron a.m.a.p. (As-Much-As-Possible). This isn't bitter hyperbole. This is a sadly literal truth. If you've been starved of Akron/UA Zips' television coverage coming out of the Cleveland-centric newscasts for as long as I have, you understand perfectly why Akron's homeboy LeBron James feels no loyalty to & no identification with the city up north. Go Akron! Go Zips! And for that matter, Go Heat! Quote
scottditzen Posted December 13, 2010 Report Posted December 13, 2010 They had a nice segment on Zips winning the title on channel 43/19. Listen, CSU has the same complaints. This has nothing to do with Cleveland hating on Akron. The fact is not every city follows college sports like Columbus, Ohio. And further more, the support for college soccer here is still in its infancy. In a pro-sports centric city/region like northeast Ohio I was happy with what I saw on the news last night. Please, lets enjoy this and stop mentioning LeBron and Ohio State for ten minutes. Quote

This accomplishment should be headline news for NE Ohio! are you talking about Fox 8???? I watched the whole hour segment at 10 to see Zips coverage, and they only did 20 seconds of it at the end. Channel 5 on the other hand, did an excellent job covering the Zips. They had game footage, an interview with a player, crowd reaction at the Barley House, and an interview at the barley house. They also continued to talk about the Zips later on during their sports news thing. I normally can't stand Channel 5 because they usually cover Columbus city's state college more than anything else, but they did a great job last night with the Zips. http://www.newsnet5.com/dpp/sports/sports_...al-championship I didn't see Channel 3 news so I have no idea what they did. Eric Mansfield hasn't mentioned the win on his facebook and he's the old Akron News guy that works for Channel 3. I doubt they did much. Quote
xu9697 Posted December 13, 2010 Report Posted December 13, 2010 Coverage on the front of the PD sports page and 3 pics and additional write-ups within the sports page. Sorry, but this is college soccer in the USA. This has absolutely NOTHING to do with Cleveland's coverage of Akron sports. It is sad that some on this site continue to want to divide the region instead of unify. Go Zips!!! National Champions!!! Quote
Wally B Posted December 13, 2010 Report Posted December 13, 2010 Not to contribute to old and tired arguements about Columbus and Cleveland but i would like to add a few things to consider.... Akron is just starting to feel its own pride and others may take offense to that. Still, Akron is my town and my team! I don't dislike OSU or its' fans. The attitude of entitlement needs to be put in it's place. What you see here is a natural reaction to sentiments expressed by Gee and the obnoxious fans (which doesn't include all OSU fans). Agree that OSU doesn't need to be repeatedly brought up, and stop whining when it is because it's begining to sound like the old Can't State-why are they talking about us crap........ It's a rivalry people and it's starting to grow!!!!! Despite all the talk of a championship drought in Cleveland/NEOhio, are we to forget the 2005 MAC Football championship? How about the 3 Championships won by the Akron Aeros, and just for good measure, the World Champion 1920 Akron Pro's. Now we can add to that the 2010 Men's Soccer National Championship! God it feels good to say that. Just because i'm proud to be from Akron, doesn't mean Cleveland should fell less about themselves. That said, bad coverage is simply that, and one game good/bad isn't going to change the preception. Hey Cleveland.com MOVE us off the "other colleges" and "MAC" tabs!!!!! Quote
scottditzen Posted December 13, 2010 Report Posted December 13, 2010 As far as championships go, don't forget about the Cleveland Crunch!!! Their 95 title game was absolutely incredible. Anyhow, I think the fact that Akron is the best team out of the 200? or so schools in NCAA is pretty incredible. GO ZIPS Quote
