GoZips
I guess we should remember that Lolla helped build the Akron soccer program. When he left, I wondered how the program would do. Boy did we get a gem of a coach in Porter. He's taken Akron soccer to a whole new level. Bringing in top recruits, a new facility (finally) and competing on a national level. Akron Zips soccer is in good hands. I hope Porter stays around for a while and he seems to want to continue building the program. I will say that beating our old coach to win the national championship is beyond sweet. Man I love saying National Champions. I hate to bring this up at this point but the rumors ofPorter moving on are coming to the surface again. It is now being said that he is heading to NC State. What do you guys who are close to the program think about all this stuff? I am concerned every time I hear this stuff as my grandson is a verbal commit for 2011. Did I miss something? North Carolina State would have to spend a boatload of money. For what? To out shine UNC? Naw, signing Porter isn't the answer. Hiring Ken Lolla for a lot less money works. Louisville, more than Akron needs fear that their coach is headed for greener pastures. At last check, the ACC is thee soccer conference. My money is on Louisville finding themselves in a dog fight to keep their social climbing head coach. If Kenny left Akron for a Big East gig, he'd leave a BE school for the ACC in a New York minute. Plus, with Wake Forest coming to Akron next year and some other excellent OOC games scheduled, Akron is the place to be. 2011 the dynasty continues. meatwad
Is the stadium finished? I remember hearing that there were more seats to be added to the grandstand. No, there will be more improvements done to the stadium by next season. They didn't have time to get them all in at the beginning of the year. GoZipsSoccer
As I understand it, K.L. was promised a new facility when he signed on, it never came to be, and the U built Infocicion/Summa, and sent him a message. I don't begrudge him moving on, any more than I rag on LBJ. It's still a semi-free country. However, KL moving on took our program to elite status. Let's get the story straight. Ken Lolla didn't leave because of a stadium not being built. May be it was a minor factor, but the real reason was he became frustrated in how the NCAA had little or no respect for teams from the MAC. When they had a high national ranking in his last year and then was snubbed by the selection committe with a much lower seed than they should have got, that was a big factor in his deciding to leave. Louisville plays in a conference that gets much more respect than the MAC, that is a fact plain and simple. How many soccer teams get bids to play in the tournament from the MAC? Only one, the team that wins the conference title. The conference Louisville plays in has had up to 7 teams get bids to play in the tournament. That is why Lolla left after spending so many years at Akron. He continued to build a program that had a good national profile from years past. He reached a point where he just felt it was time to move on and try to accomplish what he set as a goal, to win a national championship. Every coach in college soccer has different talents that lend themselves to leading their program. Porter has a talent to convince and recruit the top talent from around the country. This is the one factor that separates him from many other coaches. His drive to succeed and get those blue chip players is why he has been successful. Combined with his ability to coach and organize his team is why they are where they are at now.

fknbuflobo
Seriously? NC State? C’mon man. If Porter did not leave to take the Indiana job, I cannot see NC State.
GoZips
Seriously? NC State? C’mon man. If Porter did not leave to take the Indiana job, I cannot see NC State. Perhaps this is the kiss of death ... but, I don't think so. Coach Porter said to not worry about him leaving Akron. He has already begun work on the 2011 season with the intent of playing in the College Cup again. Its Ken Lolla that just might be headed to NC State. Got that tip from a real source.
