Buckzip Posted December 15, 2005 Report Posted December 15, 2005 According to the Leaking Urinal this morning, Conyers will be ineligible this season. He loses a year of time too. He will be a Soph next year. I wonder if he sticks to UA, or if he goes someplace else now. Quote
Z-Pouch Posted December 15, 2005 Report Posted December 15, 2005 Can anyone explain how he loses a year of eligibility or gains it back ? The Beacon article also says that he can apply for his fourth year of eligibility and it will be granted if certain athletic/acedemic (?) criteria are met. Sounds to me that we still will have this guy for 4 years if he plays by the rules and wants his eligibilty. I cannot understand why any HS would purposely mess with this kids future as has been suggested on this board. How can transcript problems not be worked out unless someone is not cooperating ? Of more concern now, is that he must figure out a way to pay for school/tuition to stay enrolled this year. Quote
Buckzip Posted December 15, 2005 Author Report Posted December 15, 2005 I never understood the Prop 48, and inelegible BS. I feel that if you have 5 years to play 4, that 1 year should be considered like a redshirt year. You miss a year, but you still have 4 to play 4. The NCAA really like to punish. Quote
zippyrifle32 Posted December 15, 2005 Report Posted December 15, 2005 well good luck to him getting everything straightened out. i'll say it again, the academic advisors they have here suck and have messed up on a lot of people's eligibility. Quote

If that is the case, why why didn't Thomas get that crap fixed? Maybe the new AD will have better luck with it. Quote
zipper Posted December 15, 2005 Report Posted December 15, 2005 That's the first time I've ever heard about an eligibility issue at Akron being screwed up in house. I heard one of the kid's former schools messed this one up. A few months ago they changed the head of the academic advising - so maybe that will help. But anyway, isn't it true that that department is not in the control of the athletic department? Not sure if the old or new AD has control over it (although I know they just beefed up the facility and the staff, right?) Quote
zip37 Posted December 15, 2005 Report Posted December 15, 2005 THERE ARE AT LEAST 2 TRANSCRIPTS, ONE FROM AN URBAN SCHOOL THAT WAS DE CERTIFIED, FACULTY ADMONISHED AND ADMINISTRATORS FIRED, SO, MANY PROBLEMS RESULTED. SOME OF THE SCHOOL'S TEACHERS HAVE CERTIFIED THAT CONYERS PASSED COURSES BUT NCAA EVIDENTLY DID NOT ACCEPT THE FACTS. HE GRADUATED FROM CHRISTIAN H.S. NEAR BALTIMORE AND AS I UNDERSTAND IT, ATTENDED ANOTHER. THE NCAA HAS ALL THE COMPASSION OF AN IRS LAWYER, AND A BUREAUCRACY MATCHING THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT'S. SO, WHO OUT THERE WOULD LIKE TO UNRAVEL THE MESS? THE BLAME IS WITH THE SCHOOL IN MARYLAND, NOT AT THE U OF A. WITH BALL AMMUNITION LOCK AND LOAD. Quote

I'm not 100% certain about this, but I think if a Prop 48 pays his way his first season and then graduates in four years, that person is able to have a 5th year. Kiki has one more year coming in football because he is graduating in May. Quote
