JP Morgan Posted December 20, 2005 Report Posted December 20, 2005 Zip ticket office confirmed 8000 tickets sold for MCB!!!!!! Quote
Zipsrifle Posted December 20, 2005 Report Posted December 20, 2005 I hope that total goes up. 8000 isn't that many in a 60,000 seat arena. Quote
JP Morgan Posted December 21, 2005 Author Report Posted December 21, 2005 It is my understanding that 8,000 is the total allotment of tickets given to UA. There are many corporate tickets flaoting around NE ohio (I snatched some of those up for myself). I'm sure Memphis will bring a big group. I'm guessing 30,000 will be the attendance. Quote

Actually, According to Memphis's board, they've only sold about 1300. They said to expect 3000 Memphis fans tops, maybe less due to those crazy Southerners being scared to drive in the snow and airline ticket prices being outrageous. I would expect 10-12,000 Blue and Gold faithful along with about 10,000 locals for an attendance of about 25000. Quote
Ryno aka Menace Posted December 21, 2005 Report Posted December 21, 2005 Ticket sales are important..very important if you disagree check out this article. http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/bowls05/news/story?id=2266118 Quote
Zipsrifle Posted December 22, 2005 Report Posted December 22, 2005 Good news, per Gozips.com, UA has sold their entire allotment of 9,400 tickets! Looks like 10,000 Akron fans is nearly guaranteed. I think 12,000 would be very respectable and gets our name down on many bowl comittee's lists. Zips SELL OUT! Quote
zipboy Posted December 23, 2005 Report Posted December 23, 2005 I heard on ESPN radio last night how many fans schools were bringing to their bowl games. Michigan is bringing a whopping 6,000 to their game. Wisconsin about 8,500. Navy about 25,000. 10,000 is a lot more than many schools are doing. Anyone says that we can't travel, F them. Quote

I would expect 10-12,000 Blue and Gold faithful along with about 10,000 locals for an attendance of about 25000. This is my first post on your Zips board. I am a long time TIGER fan and post quite frequently on the memphistigers.org board. First of all, congratulations on earning the MCB bid. Secondly, your fan base did a wonderful job of selling out your MCB allotment of tickets. That is one helluva achievement. Super job! 33 buses of fans/students heading up to Detroit on December 26. Impressive! The previous poster is correct in that only about 1500 or so TIGER fans that will be in attendance. The weather concerns are valid, as are the airline prices (totally outrageous!), but another big factor is the date of the game - December 26. Many fans - myself included - simply cannot miss Christmas with our families. Further complicating that dilemna is a big basketball game versus Gonzaga on December 27! That game is a hard sellout (and be sure to watch it on ESPN!). So, it is a COMBINATION of all of those factors that have impacted MCB attendance for MEMPHIS. Had MEMPHIS gone to the Fort Worth Bowl (being played tonight), I can assure you there would be about 7-10k TIGER fans there as well. That would have been the IDEAL bowl game for the TIGER NATION fanbase this season. MEMPHIS was in Akron's shoes (cleats?) in 2003. The TIGERS were invited to their first bowl game since 1971 - the New Orleans Bowl. Between 12-14k TIGER fans made that historic trip and it was absolutely fantastic. About 8k went to last year's GMAC Bowl. Both of those drives are about 6-7 hours. I notice the drive from Akron to Detroit is about 3 hours. Much shorter drive and easy to do a same day trip on the day after Christmas. That would be the equivalent of MEMPHIS playing a bowl game in Nashville. If that ever happened, about 20k TIGER fans would be there regardless of the date! For the record, many attending the GMAC Bowl attended despite knowing a freeze warning was coming on the night of the game for the SE portion of the country. Many fans drove back to Memphis on ice-covered interstates. So while we are not USED to driving on piles of snow and ice, we can do it. It just takes a little longer for us!! LOL! Bottom line - your team will have a definite home field advantage in the MCB. It is great to see so many Zip fans making the trip. It is important to show that support. Enjoy the game, and I think you will enjoy meeting the 1500 or so TIGER fans. Merry Christmas to all! Quote
Triple-T Posted December 23, 2005 Report Posted December 23, 2005 Excellent job, Zips.....Selling your allotment will go a long way for future bowl bids. I wish we had more coming from Memphis, but it looks like 2K or so is about all we're bringing. Looking forward to a great game! Quote
msopher Posted December 23, 2005 Report Posted December 23, 2005 Toledo brought around 2,000 for the GMAC bowl, which is a bit disappointing but not that bad. The ones that came left a good mark in Mobile. As for the MCB, Toledo brought over 10,000, and perhaps 20,000, for each of their bowl games in Detroit. Of course, geography played a key role in that. If Akron brings between 5-10,000 fans this year, that is great. Quote
zff Posted December 23, 2005 Report Posted December 23, 2005 The zips nation will be at least 10,000 strong!!!!! Fear the Roo!!!! Quote
LA ZIP Posted December 24, 2005 Report Posted December 24, 2005 I sure like the Memphis fans more than Toledo fans. Quote
