As one of the first African American student-athletes to have been recruiting by Akron, Adams was awarded an athletics scholarship and was a two-year letterman (1959-61).

His time as a teacher and coach at both Firestone High and the UoA and mine as a student both places overlapped. Glad to hear he is still among us. Learning of his impending honoring reminded me of a couple of (at least semi-funny) stories involving the two of us. Luckily for you guys they are too long for me to commit to writing. Bottom line, in addition to being a hell of a basketball player he was a good guy (and I assume still is).
