MDZip
I'd rather see that ranking after these last two games are played. Also, since it was pointed out, if the West (undeservedly so given their awful record against the East - not one team went better than 2-4) gets two byes this year it swings the balance of the tournament in a different direction. The coveted three seed may not be as good as in past years since the six seed could still be a very good East team. Going to be a fun last two weeks. Missed that one, still not so good for one of your division leaders.
OZoner
The East co-leaders are 5-3 and 4-4. Not much better.
skip-zip
The East co-leaders are 5-3 and 4-4. Not much better. We're 5-3 against the East also. Those EMU and NIU losses are keeping us from being in the driver's seat right now.
MDZip
The East co-leaders are 5-3 and 4-4. Not much better. Yes, against the East. Against the West they were 5-1 (Miami) and 6-0 (Can't) and the other co-leader of the West was 1-5 against the East. That was more my point. The West happens to have two better than average teams that chew up the rest of their division. The East looks like more the balanced and everybody chews each other up division. With that being the case and with the East performance against the West it would seem a little unfair to give the West two byes. Actually the West getting the number 2 seed for the last 6 years hasn't really been equitable either but that is what happens when you have a two division league. OZoner
A Western win tomorrow all but knocks Ball State out of contention for a bye. Suppose Western holds the Cardinals off and Miami holds serve and gets the top seed. Seeing as the Broncos beat them in Oxford, can you say they don't deserve the #2 seed? The point is, WMU held their own against the East. They would likely be in the thick of the race either way.

I'm amazed that WMU is competitive in the West this year, given their losses from a year ago. I've always considered Hawkins one of the elite coaches in the MAC -- however, he has never gotten over the "hump" and claimed a title -- he's better at taking below-average talent and making them play over their heads. I suspect they are still a year away from being a serious contender in Cleveland. What do people think?

It is hard not to wonder if it isn't a case of addition by subtraction where the loss of one player (granted a very, VERY good player) in Kool who dominates the conversation allows the rest of the team to play with more balance and therefore makes them better.
