Zip_ME87 Posted June 6, 2011 Report Posted June 6, 2011 Saturday night saw the return, albeit only for a few minutes, of Blair Gavin to the Home Depot Center pitch in a match vs the Portland Timbers. Recap: Chivas USA vs. Portland Timbers When Blair entered the game (87th minute), he joined former Zips Zarek Valentin and Ben Zemanski also playing for Chivas as well as Darlington Nagbe who was on the pitch for the Portland Timbers. At the end of the game, there was a glimpse on the television of Blair wearing a red undershirt minus his Chivas jersey but holding a Timbers jersey. I couldn't see the number but am guessing that it was #6. At any rate, it was good to see Blair get back into the lineup, and it was great to see all 4 former Zips on the pitch at once. I hope Blair's return isn't premature like last season when he ended up missing the remainder of the season after trying to come back too early. Quote

Also heard Caleb is working with the USMNT in Detroit today. I'm going to keep an eye out for him during pre-game tomorrow while I'm in Ford Field, but I'm sure he'll be up in a Box Seat somewhere. Zip_ME87 Posted June 6, 2011 Author Report Posted June 6, 2011 Did anyone catch Nanchoff's debut over the weekend? I didn't realize that Michael had played. Thanks for that information...another team to watch. My DVR is limited to 2 recordings at once. SUCKS! Also heard Caleb is working with the USMNT in Detroit today. I'm going to keep an eye out for him during pre-game tomorrow while I'm in Ford Field, but I'm sure he'll be up in a Box Seat somewhere. I hadn't heard that, either. Thanks for the great info! Quote

Thanks for the report, as I was too busy to put it on here till now. YES! Los Quatro Zips! I didn't see Blair after the game as you reported, but I did think that they may swap jerseys. lol they did! I only saw the first half of the Chivas-Vancouver game on last wed or Thursday, and I don't think Nanchoff played. Frankly, Chivas is not playing good soccer at home -- but they managed to get four points in two games vs the leagues newest franchises -- which is the least they had to do. Eric Wynalda made some praiseful comments about Darlington's potential during the broadcast for Fox West. While the Goats played one of their lesser games on Saturday, Portland is awful away from home. They were rarely able to put more than two passes together, and played so many balls from their back line forward that it was painful to watch. Neither team looked to have any finishing ability -- thank heaven the Argentinian rookie Mondaini was back from his suspension. Chivas plays better on the road than at home -- Justin Braun played what must have been the worst game of his career Saturday nite -- but he recorded a hat trick against the NY Red Bulls in New York a couple weeks ago. Overall, I think both CDCUSA and Timbers have a good shot at a playoff spot. The West is very competitive. Quote
zip37 Posted June 6, 2011 Report Posted June 6, 2011 Crew8-- tks for info re; Michael Nanchoff, I was beginning to wonder if tha hammy [?] would ever heal. Quote
Crew8 Posted June 6, 2011 Report Posted June 6, 2011 No problem, I found out through a legit source Saturday about Nanchoff and Caleb Porter. I guess Caleb was also at the Spain match. I wasn't able to catch the Vancouver match, and didn't know if anyone else caught it. I did come across this article today - Nanchoff's debut brightens loss. Quote
bobbyake Posted June 7, 2011 Report Posted June 7, 2011 Don't any of you guys have MatchDay Live?? Quote
bobbyake Posted June 7, 2011 Report Posted June 7, 2011 Nanchoff came very close to getting an assist, no idea why this isn't in the game highlights. Took some screen captures of the play, pardon the poor editing Quote
