This sounds to me like a nice hire, even if it did take a couple of months. This guy's been living and breathing soccer at the absolute top of the heap for over 10 years. Key recruiter for a team that's been to 4 recent College Cups. Knows & recruits the best talent in the nation. This is a step up for the UA program and a nice get. This program is primed to become one of the best in the country and a guy with this type of experience should keep things going nicely. My hope is that we didn't lose any players as a result of the delay. Recruiting wise .. the impact is difficult at best to really gage.Nice work committee, UAM & MR on this one. Lolla built something nice here & we'll see if this guy can turn it into something great.

No great surprise when the name was finally released -- which might say more than anything I ever could about just how high the program has risen these last couple years. Any school in the country would have coveted Caleb had they had an opening. Yes -- even the turtles. I look for Akron to be a top-5 team and College Cup contender into the forseeable future.I do wonder about what type of contract he got. It must be very similar to what Keith Dambrot gets in a much more visible sport. And I know Keith doesn't mind sharing the university's largesse.Go get 'em (meaning national team members), Coach Porter

Didn't Lolla leave partially because the Zips got screwed in the tournament seeding? I also thought I read here that the MAC might lose it's automatic bid for some reason? If both of these statements are accurate, how do we build this program to put it on top and keep it on top?

Don't lose any sleep over the future of the Zip soccer program Rifler. If this were a program on the decline, Porter and Agoos wouldn't have put their hats in the ring. We're the Gonzaga of soccer, only better then that basketball team.

yes don't worry about the seeding issue. a similar situation happened with new mexico tow years ago were they also had an undefeated record for most of the season only to get an 8 seed......they followed it up with another solid season this year and were rewarded with a high seed and went to the final four....as long as the socer team plays well they should be rewared this year.GO ZIPS! :screwks:

I was suprised Lolla didnt stay for that exact reason. If he had stayed, I would be shocked if they didnt start as a Top 5 Team and potentially carry that forward as long as success continued.

I suspect Coach Lolla left, at least in part, due to frustration with the University and its refusal to make a financial commitment to the most successful athletic program (by far) in the school's history. Most top flight programs have soccer stadiums. Not $20M MLS type stadiums, but fields dedicated to soccer with built in stands, lockerrooms, good lights, permanent concessions, etc. Louisville just built one. The University should invest in ungrading Lee Jackson Field. The space is there. Best of luck to Coach Porter. Someone tell him to leave his red and white cloths in Bloominton.
