The silence is deafening

OSU, PSU, etc. games are mostly for the $$. The wicked thing about it is we might not "need" those games if we get good and start averaging 20-25,000 fans per game. However, the only way we get to 20-25,000 is if we get good...and then we might have a puncher's chance against an OSU, PSU, UM in a down year (see Toledo). In general, though, the way to go if you want the "name" programs and to avoid huge embarresment right now is get the bottom/middle feeders of the Big 10, ACC and Big East and stay away from the traditional powers. With that being said...we lost 41-3 to Temple. Granted...Temple and Toledo THIS year are probably good for 8th-9th place in the Big Ten and ACC.
Ooh, I'd bet theyd both fare better than that. Especially Temple. Temple is tough! I'm betting they give Penn State all they can handle this weekend. Toledo, however? Well, I'm expecting them to get blown out by Boise. I think Boise is that good.

Temple will be 2-3 at the end of this three game stretch. And I don't see the Penn State game being close. Toledo I think actually plays a tough game against Boise. I hear Toledo painted the whole field yellow and will wear yellow jerseys and pants for the game to give Boise a taste of their own medicine.

To my friends in our tailgate group, there is absolutely no momentum for meeting up this season. Akron football is kind of like a dying friend. You don't want to have to see that person in the hospital (infocision) but you feel obligated. Realistically I think we'll only get together to attend 1 game. Maybe two. I don't think any of us has felt right since the shocking loss to G Webb. Also, tailgating in a near empty lot 34 wasn't exactly much fun either. The plummet in optimism from the stadium opening to now is so bad that it's almost surreal.
I keep saying it over, and over and over. That game DEVASTATED the regular Zips fans. Forget about "Joe Akron". That one made disbelievers out of many of the most faithful, and certainly resulted in many non-renewals of season tickets.I don't think a week goes by where someone I know does not bring up that game, and uses it to illustrate how far we fell as a program last year.

I'll probably be going to games alone also. There are some people who want to go to some later games with me, but frankly, I know by that point I'll be too embarrassed by the whole situation to have them show up. In the past there were SOME people in lot 34, but there will be NOBODY later in the year and the team is so bad and the crowd is so small that I don't want to ruin what has been a pretty good experience the past two seasons for them. I used to really try to get people to the games but it's not worth it. I'm also a little frustrated with UA, after having season tickets for 12 years and donating money to the athletic dept., I don't get any communication about the OSU game and they give me a parking pass for the parking Deck AFTER I requested one for Lot 34. I do as much as I can to help their program and they just kinda treat me like some new guy who has season tickets for the first time.... This is our low point and if it isn't fun for me, it won't be fun for anyone else. This year I'm just going to try to learn more about the game and hopefully there will be some high points. I really want to be there the moment things start to turn around, if they turn around. Don't know, we'll see what happens...
