bobbyake
Akron football is at an all time low right now and a lot of us are worried we'll lose again to another FCS/D1AA school. If Akron does not win against VMI, will the Zipsnation community finally come together and make it official that we want Ianello gone? This has got to be the last straw for him. I understand there are those that believe the Titanic (in this case, the raft) isn't sinking and they'll think that no matter what. But for the rest of us, how long are we going to allow this to continue silently?Ianello's job should be on the line against VMI, no matter the consequences of ending his contract. K92
This next game is a must win and it must be a convincing win. If they lose to a I-AA two years in a row, Ianello must go.
Dave in Green
The Zips outscored Cincinnati's 2nd and 3rd stringers 14-10 in the second half. I don't see any excuse for not being able to perform this well or better against VMI's first string.
bobbyake
They've got to win for Zippy!!! This game should be known as the Battle of the Roos.
johnnyzip84
This is a simple game prediction for me. If the Zips are at least even in the turnover department, they'll win by a couple of TDs. I think they'll still win if they're -1 in turnovers. Anything worse than that and a 2nd nightmare FCS loss could occur.I'm as disgusted as any by the outcome of these 1st 3 games. But as additional results begin to pour in during this young season (Temple gives PSU all they can handle, FIU beats UCF, Ohio U is crushing Marshall), it's becoming apparent to me that this schedule may be the most difficult in Zip D-1/FBS history. It's not an excuse. It's just an observation. That being said, I do think this is a must win for Ianello. Recruiting is already going to be a tough enough road as it is. Zipsrifle
Yes.Last year he had the excuse that everything was new. No excuse this year. If we lose next week, can him.
UAZipster0305
Agreed. And it's just not that we are losing. We are getting embarrassed on a weekly basis. In a brand new stadium, the program is at an all-time low with no signs of improvement and I actually think we might be getting worse. K92
BTW, VMI is 0-3 on the year, losing to Delaware State, William & Mary and Richmond.
Zips fan
It would be great for icoach to just resign. The buyout is a difficult thing with so much time left on his contract. I am sure the university would have move him to the developmnet office if he does not agree to a buyout. I really have no faith that we will beat VMI. We have been outscored 142-17 and it could have been much worse. All three teams eased up and were capable of beating us by 50. If cincinnati didn't ease up, the might have put up 80+ points. bobbyake
does anyone know how much we're paying them to come play at Akron? I highly doubt more than 4,000 fans will show up for this game, if that. Only 5,000-6,000 showed up for the home opener.

His pay would be high for an assistant but at least we're getting something for the $$$ being spent.

K92
Bobby, I went back and read your original post again. You make reference to those Zips fans who can't see the Titanic is sinking and will never admit it. I am afraid I don't know any Zips fans of this category.Don't mistake those (including myself) who spoke out against the wholesale piling on of RI as being "Ianello Backers". The vitriol against the man was beyond ridiculous and had degraded into personal attacks. Many of us just wanted to enjoy the "season of optimism" that most fans engage in before the season starts. Most fans don't want to dwell on the failures of the previous season for the umpteen millionth time as they look forward to the new season. Many fans (again, including myself) were willing to give RI the benefit of the doubt. Benefit of the doubt. A favorable judgment granted in the absence of full evidence. Well, the negative evidence has been pretty overwhelming in circumstances that demanded the exact opposite. The Zips needed to come out versus OSU and clearly display they had improved in many areas. They did not and have appeared to only tread water against Temple and then take a huge step back today. Just a few small signs to show we are on the right track would have been enough to keep me on the B.O.T.D. train. But there weren't any. From the opening kickoff that went out of bounds to the last snap, there weren't any. Yes, 100 yard receiver. Yes, 100 yard rusher. But not one shred of evidence that ANYTHING is going in the right direction.Watching the Zips this season is like watching the 1976 Tampa Bay Buccaneers. All that being said, I still hope the Zips prove me wrong and show me they ARE on the right track. I will be tailgating, adding to the beer list, and hoping for a Zips victory. Hmmmmm. Maybe I am an "Ianello Backer".

It's the players I support, not the coach. Only reason I made a reference to the Titanic thing is because there will be people that still support Ianello if we lose to VMI. At that point, those that still support him should be regarded as such.Although VMI is 0-3, I'm very nervous we'll lose. If this happens, we really need to start petitioning the University to fire this guy regardless of his contract. This is something we should all be united on. ZipsAlum92
The issue shouldn't be that Akron can't afford to fire Ianello. The real issue is that Akron can't afford not to fire Ianello. They are playing in the nicest stadium in the MAC and aren't even drawing the crowds they did when they played in the Rubber Bowl. There are enough alums out there that would be willing to put up the cash to get rid of Ianello and get someone else. At the end of the day, Ianello isn't even likable. He has alienated the alumni and that is where the money comes from. Say what you want about Faust and his coaching, but at least he was a good guy and was able to charm the alumni into giving money to the program. Dave in Green
Keener'92 states my position very well. I've been willing to give Ianello a fair chance, and the clock is starting to run down as I continue to look for signs of progress with increasing pessimism. It's annoying enough to have to put up with inferior play on the football field without the added annoyance of having to dig through a continuous stream of "I hate Ianello" posts from the usual suspects every time I come here looking for thoughtful comments about what went right and what went wrong in the last game.We all know by now who has totally written off Ianello. It doesn't need to be continuously repeated like some annoying little kid continuously whining about not wanting to take a bath. Endless repitition is annoying and unproductive. Make your point and move on.Like coaches and players, fans can also be judged on their performance. One measure of fan performance is the thoughtfulness of their comments. There are Zips fans on this forum who do a good job of citing examples and explaining why they don't think Ianello will be successful with the way he's trying to build the program. I enjoy reading those thoughtful comments and I learn from them.

My daughter is 3+ years old. But the fans who trail the opposing goalie to either end and harass her in the most vile way are missing the point of sportsmanship. I could not keep my daughter there and have her hear that. Maybe it is OK to harass a male goalie that way but a little more decorum should be used with a woman. I apologized to the goalie after the game for our fans behavior.
