Ladies Goal from Sunday

Anyone catch the wrapup video for the Ladies game Sunday?

The first goal is a cool score... from a free kick... a quick turn around by the blonde (Hughes) that the camera mostly missed.

The last goal is from a corner kick at :45 seconds in the video. The kick is way off of the goal... more of a set-up/pass... and there are 6 defenders between the Akron MF/D (#14 Frawley) and the GK... but she heads it in just under the cross bar from 25 feet. Put the arrow on the scroll bar at 45 seconds and click a few times to see it again.

The men should sign her up !!! That was a great goal!

I was there this weekend. They've been playing better each match since they lost to South Florida 1-0. They beat Florida Atlantic 4-0 a couple weekends ago, Eastern Illinois 2-0 last weekend, and then tied the back-to-back defending MAC Champions, Central Michigan, 0-0. They then beat Eastern Michigan 3-0 today. The team is playing better, but if they can execute their passes and control the ball better, no one can stop this team. Coach Pfau was right that the talent level of this team is right up there, and possibly better, than the rest of the MAC.

Very impressed. Needs to see if we can win on the road next weekend at Northern Illinois and Western Michigan. If we can do that, this team is going to be one to watch the rest of the year. Just to give you an idea, 5 out of the 8 teams in the MAC tournament last year was from the MAC West. We only got 1 win(3 pts) from MAC West teams last year. We already have 4 pts this year against the MAC West.

I feel bad that they didn't show Kelly DeNiro's goal. It was a boom of a kick, and was in the upper right of the goal. Was one heck of a kick. Just to give you the class for these 3 goals and who scored:

Freshman Alexandra Frawley scored in 83rd minute

Just in case you missed the games &/or results from this weekend....The Ladies tied CMU on Friday night. CMU was ranked 5th in the NSCAA great lakes region and 25th on Socceramerica.com. It was a great game and a great result!

Today, the Ladies beat Eastern Michigan 3-0 at home. Jeny Wolbert became the all-time wins leader with 22 games and recorded her fourth straight shutout.

It was a great way to open MAC play - keep it up Ladies!!

I was there with my 3yo daughter. The goal by Kelly DeNiro I thought was more impressive. Power kick and pinpoint accuracy. I can see why she takes the corner kicks.

My daughter calls her “my friend” because she met her last Saturday at the Eastern Illinois game. Actually…we first met her mother and played with Kelly’s dog Bailey during the break so my daughter now considers them friends. I think it is pretty cool. And DeNiro scored in both games. She will be expecting goals at the next home games from Kelly…we will be there. LOL My daughter hates leaving the field and wants the game to continue. The Lady Zips have found an avid fan in my daughter.

I want to also mention this as well. If anyone was there today, and heard the very few vuvuzelas be more loud than usual as the game went on today at random spots. The reason for that was because one of the stadium staff members told us that an EMU parent and/or fan was complaining about the vuvuzelas. He also told us that the person thought it was unsportsmanlike to blow those vuvuzelas during the match. So he told us he wanted us to blow them louder than we already were. During women's games, some of us students usually travel from The Hill, to the other side, since there's not many people there. The person that complained was on that side taking photos for her daughter or for the team in general, not quite sure. But when one of us started blowing one of the vuvuzelas, she took a hold of it, and then tugged on it and through it onto the practice field. Then laughed about it like a little kid. One of the assistant coaches for Lady Zips, saw it, and opened the practice field's gate for us to go get it. Want to thank that assistant coach for helping us out there. The very creepy part was that the person was taking photos of us as well even though the person was not very "happy" about what we were doing.

She tossed the vuvuzela onto the practice field just a minute or two before Ashley Hughes scored the first goal. So not sure if karma helped or not as well
