Creating a Zips Team Stop at the mall

Why don't you just flush the money down the toilet instead? Your pathetic school only had 2,500 people there for the Buffalo game. What a joke!!! We had 5,000 people at the last home game on a SUNDAY. Akron= minor league.
I'm sorry Can't state only teaches you how to make bread baskets and gingerman cookies. You go to a hippie school. Why would I take any advice from you.

Actually...........Akron had 2800 and Can't had 4300 (Of which, I heard was a large contingency of Buffalo fans for a Sun game). Nice rounding.....Don't kid yourself, you have attendance problems too. At least we play in a gym where the main scoreboard works and can be seen.On the store idea, I think you'd make some money. The problem would be finding a lot of different Akron gear and novelties to offer.

Sorry I forgot to mention the 12 Buffalo fans that were there. The fact of the matter remains we had almost 5,000 strong on a Sunday (students hung over), while Akron had under 3,000 (closer to 2,000 from what I hear) on a weeknight!!!!! You want to talk about facilities?!!?!?!?!? The Rubber Bowl is the laughing stock of the country. Remember ESPN ripping on it during the Akron-Marshall game? CLASSIC!!!!

I think it's a great idea. I don't think it would cost me more then a $100,000 loan and I could get $10,000 for start up cash. A Zips Team Shop in Chappil Hill Mall or Summit Mall. Any suggestions or advice?
If it requires a 100k investment to launch a single local college team shop, I wouldn't hesitate to let your mind continue coming up with other ideas. Heh. I don't mean to be a naysayer, and since I haven't launched any retail businesses, I am far from an expert. But let me just remind you that the age of internet commerce has yet to see it's golden era. There are a lot of business models that require brick and mortar storefronts, but this isn't one of them where it is a necessity. Also, why a mall? It's true, you will get a significantly higher number of people to casually walk in then those who would drive in to a retail plaza just to patronize a team shop, but a much higher percentage of foot traffic in a mall will not result in a sale.If you are serious about this, after you have studied the feasability with the product with the school, I would consider a smaller loan and testing your venture with a 1 or 2 year lease somewhere that the rent isn't so high.

Antonio G takes a cheap shot at the R Bowl, but forgets to mention their attendance at Can't was around 400-500 for the last few games of the football season. I am not kidding 400-500, and this was from someone that works at Can't.I don't think your football program ever has to worry about ESPN football coverage. Your fieldhouse is real impressive.. LOLLooking fwd to going to the game out at Can't. I have been to many MAC games on different campuses and have never saw an uglier, fatter, lost in the 70's and early 80's, toothless group of fans then the Can't following. The people watching at halftime is worth the price of admission.

After 7 years of 20 win seasons, you are bragging about attendence of 4300 !?!?!? (Just so you know 4300 does not equal 5000 and there WERE a lot of Buffalo fans). Pathetic. Can't's attendence has been right down with Akron this year for the most part. I guess you have really developed a strong "tradition". When the Zips have their run in football or basketball, I'd expect nothing less then sellouts every game. Go back to smallville.

Smallville has MANY championship banners hanging in the MAC Center. How many does the JAR have???? ZERO.....combined for BOTH of your pathetic basketball programs. IF Akron were ever to win a game in Cleveland, you would see the THOUSANDS of K ent fans yourself. But we all know that will never happen. Everyone in Can't knows that Akron is envious of us. It comes with the territory. Coach Christian is 4-2 against Akron. In 24 hours, he will be 5-2.

Thanks Zen, I apreciate your honesty, you seem very smart and I was impressed with your dome ideas. The reason I like the mall is because of the convenience factor. Zips hats sell like hot cakes at Lids and no other store in that area has Uakron gear. I understand your idea about it not being at the mall. Before I bought my new duplex, I was looking at a building on n. Main st that had 3 living units and a business unit on the bottum. That could have made for a great start. I really haven't done any marketing segmenting on the mall idea yet. The idea is still too new for me. That's why I ask the fans there opinion first. I like the mall idea because it helps establish this team as the main college in this community, which other retailers in this area thinks it's ohio state. I think a local team shop can help spread Akron's popularity in this area, which I think we can all agree that it's lacking and not near its potential.

Put in Chapel Hill if you put it anywhere. 5 minute drive from UA, easy access to students. And it's closer to me  ;)
UAZips, if you live in Alaska, wouldn't a team shop in Summit Mall on the west side be a little closer for you? That would shave a few minutes off your 4,000 mile drive

I believe the Plain Dealer and Terry Pluto both said the only thing keeping the MAC basketball tournament in Cleveland is the popularity of the K ent St. basketball program. Of course, Akron fans have only heard about Cleveland. One day, MANY years from now.....maybe you will get to hang a real championship banner in the JAR. Until then, have fun with that Men's Soccer banner. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!

i will say that i like the free souvenirs one can get at dix stadium. those chunks of concrete that fall from that piece of crap are nice. plus i feel safe being able to see the rebar sticking out the side of the stadium, so i know it's well built. funny how there has never once been a sellout in the prestigious history of dix stadium but the largetst crowd ever was a thursday night in 2004 when akron embarrassed Can't in their own pile of rubble. i just wish that the mac center would've been called the cox center, keeping in theme with dix stadium as a tribute to all Can't students and alumni :screwks:

I am in a state of shock!!!! I need to go check the Beacon Journal, this really is news, right up there with confirmation that Big Foot exists! LOOK EVERYONE, a Can't FAN! Where the hell did it come from!?! I don't think there has been a Can't fan sighting for at LEAST a year here on Zips Nation. Unfortunately, it appears to be a little messed up. Maybe it's been in hibernation for the past few months. I think we all need to go easy on it.....stop jabbing it with all those recent MAC Championship facts :macc: or it will become like the other Can't fans. You know, the ones who never leave their board (is there a Can't board anymore?). The ones who will act like the runt of the schoolyard and start screaming Uncle as soon as the cross-town bully shows up? I would like to keep it around for a while, but I fear (the roo) that it will be gone after today  It'll probably scurry into the same hole (Dix?) the other Can't fan now occupies after we hand it to them tonight. :nutkick: Oh, yea..... :screwks:
