There are multiple lots...search uakron.edu to find them. Nearly all around the stadium that aren't decks allow full-on tailgating (drinking/grilling/etc.). As far as drinking goes, you should keep it in a plastic cup, but it is allowed...actually it's encouraged. On a side note: I just attended OU's homecoming last weekend and had a BLAST. Akron (and any other ohio college) could learn a thing or two about how it should be done from you guys. The parade was amazing, the 110 alumni band was more entertaining than the football game, and the atmosphere was top notch. great stuff.

Anyone want to let me know how tailgating works at Akron games - is there room in the parking lot? are you ok to have beverages?
Here's the parking map.Lots 14, 15, 27, and 34 allow tailgating. I'm afraid you won't find many Zips fans no matter where you choose to set up. Not knowing how many fans you're bringing, I would suggest the northern end of Lot 34. Plenty of room there. There's nothing within view of the stadium that's open to the public. It's all reserved parking.

You could also call the ticekt line and ask about purchasing a one game parking pass in a reserved lot...there will be plenty of space. Lot 15 will at least afford you visibility.

Lot 15 has maybe 20 parking spaces. It's easily the smallest of the four tailgate lots. But on the plus side it offers two grassy areas to set up in and you don't have to cross any roads to walk to the stadium. If you have a group, get there early and claim the whole thing.

Lot 34 may be big but boy is it empty and boring. At least you can see people coming in for the game from the snug confines of lot 15. But do get there early.

One more question - any recommendations on hotels? I usually use priceline but am not too familiar with the area.
Here is another thread to read throughEverybody is different on places they like to stay. My suggestion is Google Maps, type in 'University of Akron' click on 'search nearby', type in 'hotels' and read the reviews of people that have stayed in places before. If you don't mind being five miles up route 8, you can stay at either Sheraton Suites or Country Inn & Suites By Carlson in Cuyahoga Falls‎.Good Luck.
