Crew8
I didn't want to start a whole new thread, since nothing may change. But MLS clubs released the players available for this Wednesday's Expansion Draft. Valentin, Ampai, and Gavin were all left unprotected and could possibly join Bush and Sinisa in Montreal. Here is a full list of players protected and unprotected

He played a lot of minutes for Chivas and him being picked up by Montreal could definitely happen.

Hmmm being a member of the "other" LA team versus playing in a unique, multi-cultural city for a rabid fan base with several UA teammates to boot. And weather is not a huge factor, given the MLS summer season. If I were Zarek or Blair, I know I wouldn't be too disappointed to be selected. The Impact were already going to be my favorite MLS team. This just makes it even better for me

This just makes it even better for me While I'm surprised and disappointed that at least Zarek wasn't protected, I'm with you JohnnyZip that Montreal would be a great place to be. For me, I love the idea of a Continental (United) weekend special from Cleveland to Montreal to catch a game. Passport ready! Question - Does anyone know why Kofi, Darlington, and Michael Nanchoff don't show up as protected or unprotected? Also, very cool that Chris Korb is protected by DC. That makes me feel really good about telling him before the draft that I was confident he would be drafted. I knew he was nervous about it. Go Zips! They're still under generation adidas "Generation adidas players who have not graduated by the end of 2011 and Home Grown players are automatically protected." which makes me wonder why Korb, Nagbe, Bunbury, and Kitchen are on the protected list?? Zakuani (2009 draft), Bunbury (2010 draft), Kitchen (2011 draft) - all fit the GA exception, but are listed as protected Gavin (2010 draft), Valentin (2011 draft) - fit the GA exception, but are listed as unprotected Nagbe, Sarkodie, Nachoff (2011 draft) - fit the GA exception, but aren't listed Korb, Ampai (2011 draft) - no GA exception, listed as protected, unprotected I believe a GA contract is for 5 years. After leading the club in minutes and games played, the 19-year-old graduated from the Generation adidas program, a development that wasn’t guaranteed but not completely unexpected." http://www.mlssoccer.com/news/article/2011...ncertain-future

I have to say -- I'm shocked that Seattle did not protect Nate Jaqua. As far as I'm concerned, he's the best player on their roster! Hope Montreal grabs him! As far as Chivas USA, I have followed their fortunes for several years. They're very poorly run from the top down. I know Zarek loves LA, and fortunes can change rapidly in MLS, however, I don't think anyone should regret getting our from under the gravity of the Galaxy at HDC. yazan07
You graduate from GA based on minutes played, so although they are only one year out, Perry and Zarek graduated this year whereas the others have not. Also because of this, I believe Blair Gavin just graduated and maybe Teal as well. I'm really surprised Chivas would pick up Zarek as the 4th pick, play him so much, then leave him unprotected. Also keep in mind Montreal can only pick up one player per team, so Gavin and Zarek would not both leave if either of them. It also says a lot about how Chivas views Ben Zemanski that they protected him while leaving these guys unprotected.

I gathered as much when I read that Perry Kitchen had "graduated" from GA. I hadn't realized previously that it worked that way. So, the stipend to return to college is only there if you don't make it as a pro player?

I do have, however, and article that basically sums up Chivas's reasoning behind leaving certain players unprotected. Looks like Blair and Zarek weren't the only top draft picks left unprotected.
