Valentin picked 2nd!!!!!!!!! Chivas messed up big

Yeah, and trading away Justin Braun for James Riley too. Not sure what's going on in Chivas land

Chivas likes losing. They also like being second best to LA.

Interesting note: Houston is opening a new stadium next year and Brian Ching, who is the club's captain and near retirement, said he refuses to play at Montreal. He said he would retire if picked up and take a job in their front office, but he was not moving to Montreal and is staying in Houston no matter what because he wants to be there for the new stadium. Do you think Montreal are trying to call his bluff or are they trying to bank on him wanting to stay in Houston and play bad enough that Montreal will make a trade if the terms are good enough. Kinda seems like a dick move on Montreal's part.

Trade him back to Houston for Kofi Sarkodie, gives Montreal 4 Zips.

"Needless to say, there are a ton of upset Dynamo fans right now with anger directed at Impact head coach Jesse Marsch (who helped keep Ching off the 2010 US World Cup team), the Impact organization and the Dynamo organization. In the end, Montreal called Ching's bluff. Brian has said before the draft he would retire before playing in Montreal, Marsch admitted talking to Ching this morning and being told that again by the man himself, but proceeded to select him anyway."

Montreal is closer to Lancaster, PA than Los Angeles. I think Zarek liked LA, but I think this is good for him to get away from Chivas. I hope Continental/United continue their weekend specials from Cleveland next year. I'd love to see our 3 Zips in Montreal.

You have to think some of these teams have some sort of a gentleman's agreement with Montreal - I don't get how some of thse guys were left unprotected

Gentlemen's agreement? It's called the continuing incompetence of the Chivas USA management. The rest of MLS expects to benefit from the club's inadequacy.

What do people think about Chivas protecting Ben but not Zarek? Both seemed to be trapped in Robin Fraser's revolving door lineup midway through the season. Zarek apparently chose the wrong time to be in Fraser's doghouse, after starting every game for about four months, he fell out with the coach in late August and didn't play until the final game, as I recall. Ben started more games than not, and finished the awful season relatively strongly. But will someone -- anyone -- explain how these idiots protected PAULO NAGAMURA? One of the most disliked players in the league -- and a veteran journeyman at best? I have to wonder just how much salary caps contribute to the decision making. Maybe a lot more than we realize.

And YES Tank -- I was very serious about Nate Jaqua. He may be the most underrated player in MLS. I've long been a Sigi Schmid fan, but not giving Nate a shot after returning from his injury is the biggest mistake he's made in Seattle. Look at how well he's played in (US Open Cup) matches when he's had the chance. You can let it be known, I'm not a Freddy Montero aficianado.

I would be SHOCKED if Brian kept his "promise"! Montreal made a good choice. If he doesn't play, he's great trade bait (a former MLS MVP, for Pete's sake!) either back to Houston or to the West Coast. After Donovan leaves, the Galaxy will be looking for a scorer and leader. Back to San Jose is another possibility, as I believe Brian's wife is from the area.

And -- you save on air fare flying to LA to not see the ex-Zips in action! Sorry about that -- couldn't resist. :D

If he retires like he said he will (trading a 400k salary for a 60k job?), how does Montreal benefit? It would be a wasted expansion pick.

Well I was afraid something like this would happen. Montreal just picked up LA GK Donovan Ricketts. He was LA's first choice GK for a while until injury took him out of the game and LA's #2 claimed the top spot. Even though Evan Bush had worked his way to the top spot at Montreal last year and was then signed by the MLS squad, I had a feeling they would sign a veteran GK who would take the starting job and put Bush at the #2 spot. I hope this does not deter Even from getting minutes this year. As most of you know though, keeper minutes do not go around the same way as minutes do for field players.

I was just about to post this when I heard about the Trade...I still think Evan will get some time Ricketts is injury prone, and not a solid number 1. Evan could beat him out

Check out the paragraph titled "WISHING ON A STAR" near the bottom of this blog.

"If his name is called by Commissioner Garber Mattocks will join a burgeoning Akron Alumni player pool at Saputo Stadium. One that's grown so large at some point in the upcoming season the club may have to schedule a Zips Homecoming Day."

Good news, for now at least, is my Hawaiian homeboy Chingie has decided he will not be retiring after all! End of drama? No chance. BTW, I was going to post the MLS sked, but Crew8 beat me to it. Here's the dates you all want to mark: Saturday March 24 and Saturday, Sept 1 Montreal @ Columbus. And for me -- June 20 Impact @ Chivas USA, the only West Coast visit for Montreal this year.

Wow, this schedule sucks! The March 24th match vs the Impact conflicts with USA v Canada U23 Group A qualifying match in Nashville and NO Nagbe, Zakuani, or Ampai in Columbus this [regular] season!
