Zips Need to Grow Up

Recommended Posts

 Good Morning. The term immaturity has been bantered around a bit. Do we have a definition for it? As a counselor I have seem 50 year olds immature and I have seem 12 year olds very mature. Depends on your definition. Personally I think it has nothing to do with maturity. It has to do with the will to win, to work hard, to see a future, to have confidence in themselves. to be coachable. But basically it is the will to win above all. Only the next games and tournament will tell us IF they have the will to win. Pulling it out in the last seconds IS NOT a will to win it is an accident because of talent. Boys have to look deep inside of themselves and again decide what they want and then go get it.

Some of the biggest NCAA teams do not have a lot of talent but boy they sure want to win badly and they do. No NCAA team I have watched, and I have watched most do not have 9 gifted players but the ones they do have want that WIN and they make sure they get it. Guess that is enough preaching for one morning.

Zips do YOURSELF proud and win tonight. Do it for yourself to make yourselves better.Great character can be yours for this. Hope the snow stops so I can be there, living 60 miles away.

I don't know where you may have heard this, but it's not normally a good idea to smile at another player after you've beaten them, unless you're friends off the court.

As for the topic here, I hate to comment about guys jawing with other players, or their bench, without knowing what is being said to them. In general, it's a maturity problem if it's frequent and unprovoked. If it doesn't fall under that category, it's pretty usual behavior on a basketball court. Although, that doesn't mean that I'm pleased when I see my team doing it.

On Zeke complaining: Most people think he does it more than he should, and they are probably right. Frequent periods of frustration can hinder your performance. However, during any given game, he's involved in more contact than any player on the floor. And so he is exposed to erratic MAC officiating on almost every play. I think we all feel for him :)

I agree with what everyone is saying about Zeke pouting, but having problems with Q? Come on people. He talks quite a bit while he's on the court. So what? He brings a toughness that the Zips need. Dambrot has said it himself, now that we have Tree and Q nobody can "Punk" us. Q brings the swagger that this team needs and a never die attitude. He's playing as well as ever and looks as if he feeds off the toughness, so why nitpick the guy? If anything we should complain that the Serb isn't bringing half the energy he brought last season. This is not a "Vanilla" team, and i'm comfortable with the direction we're headed towards. We have many more characters than in years previous, and we're winning. What more can we ask for!?
