I can't believe everyone is THAT annoyed with the team and the coach at the moment... I hope it's just a knee-jerk reaction to a bad loss. They did lay an egg in the last ten minutes last nite, it happens. But that's no reason to villify the coach and the players. Are we really pining for the Hipsher days? And all this talk about the seats not being full next year is definitely not cool! If you want to be a bunch of frontrunning fairweather fans, you should transfer to Can't. (Really, NOBODY will be at their games next year to watch their inevitable 3-15 MAC performance... when Armon Gates celebrates his 30th birthday on Cant's senior day, Zips fans ought to outnumber flushes fans 2 to 1.)But seriously, give 'em a break. They had a great season and last night had a great 30 minutes. The NIT is probably still on the horizon, so show some love and go to the game. (*cough* It wouldn't be hard for more fans to show up for Zips NIT game(s) than showed up for Thursday's contest with WMU *cough*)

hey people are pissed. that wasn't a hard fought loss by a bucket to an equal or better team. it was a team pissing down it's leg embarrassing themselves. poor coaching and poor play at crunch time. something people around here are tired of, especially when we thought those days were over. it was a giant :nutkick: to us as fans.

I am not an apologist, I call it like I see it and have no regrets. This team underachieved and lost every big/close game all season. beating up on the also rans is not impressive to me when the team loses big leads at Miami, Ohio, and Can't plus blows opportunities against Clemson, Buffalo, and in the tournament against Toledo. Add in that the team was unprepared to play Nevada and got embarrased by a bad Louisville team and there is little I think is a great achievement from the 2005-06 Zips. It's not that they lost, it is how they lost these games. Lack of leadership on the court and from the sideline. Add in a lack of recruiting for the MAC level of play, outside of the Akron city limits, and you have a program that had a chance to do something big and blew it on Saturday night. Losing big on the road in the NIT is not going to make me feel better. I hope this season is over at 22-9 without another double-digit loss total.Move on to 2006-07 and hopefully a powerhouse JUCO forward to fill the void left by Walther. But with our luck this coaching staff will pull a Brian Hipsher move and give a scholarship to either Goddard or Mraz as tehy are in the KJP. king james posse. :gun::gun::gun::gun::gun::gun::gun::gun::gun:

I feel the same way.^ Were supposed to feel really good about the season after that loss las t night? I would have honestly not been all that upset if they had lost a good game to Can't today. I hate to say it, but I think Can't is a better overall team this year. The fact that Akron played so well all this season, and to have it go completely down the crapper in a pathetic loss is ridiculous. We should be pissed, I dont care what anybody says.

my sentiments exactly, but i guess people need to vent. i doubt the team was looking past toledo, but a lot of the fans sure were with the talk about the easy road to the finals and the build-up about the championship game, as if we were already in it. dambrot is an excellent coach. the team had a very good season. the future looks good.i'll be rooting for toledo in the finals.

KingZip,Where have you been with this opinion until now? It sure is easy to pile on after a tough loss! Take a look at a sample of your posts in the recent past. Looks like you didn't hate KD! Looks like you understood the challenges he faced with this team's limitations. It sure seems like you believed in the team!Jan 25 - Akron vs. Ohio:"Recruiting is not the problem, injuries to Akron's best player and a transcript issue with the best freshman recruit have Akron at a big disadvantage in the paint. Coach D said this on the radio following the game last night and it was the gospel. Having Wood and Conyerz in the paint would have made that game a 10 point Akron win."Now read your post about how terrible it was to recruit from St. V and other local talent!Mar. 8 - Tourney preview:"This year, though, is all about No. 1 Can't State (22-8, 15-3) and No. 3 Akron (21-8, 14-4), which glare at each other from opposite sides of the MAC bracket. The twin-division system means the No. 2-seed goes to 12-6 West champ Northern Illinois, but the East was the beast this year. The Golden flushes had the division clinched going into last weekend, but in the regular season finale, the Zips' 75-67 pullaway win over their close-by rivals sent a clear message: "Fear the Roo." "Jan 30. - Where are the remaining five MAC wins going to come from?:"You guys are some negative thinkers. Why would I think that Akron would not sweep it's home games against Buffalo, WMU, BG, Ohio and Can't - that is a total of five wins. Why would I think that Akron would not win at EMU, Miami, and Buffalo? That is another three wins.Akron's bracket buster is TBA, but why would you bet against your own team.Quit thinking like damned losers all of the time and give the boys the credit they deserve. They have lost one MAC game, 17-1 is not out of the question. "I guess you are off the bandwagon now?!

w00t says that we are all having a knee-jerk reaction to the loss. I don't think that is the case. Look at the posts. They are all well reasoned and use evidence to support their opinion. If anything, this team has been given too much slack for losing so much late in the season and we were all ignoring a huge problem right in front of our faces. You all can say what you want about fairweather fans, but the truth of the matter is that they are the best type of fans out there. Many of us have spent hundreds of hour watching bad basketball and football since the school moved to D-1. In addition, we have spent even more money buying tickets and merchadising. Maybe putting up with abuse is the sign of a good fan. I go to every event I can. After writing this, I have come to the conclusion that I and others like me are easy to describe...........we are all a bunch of idiots. How else can you describe putting up with the abuse? A fairweather fan won't settle for watching and supporting crap and that is the most logical approach to being a fan.Everything KingZip said is correct and he should stand by it. Today is just a change in opinion based upon further evidence. KD makes a lot of money and the players are on full scholarship. His salary and the scholarships are basically paid for by the taxpayers of Ohio because they don't sell enough tickets to pay for them through sales. If we want to bitch, we have every right to bitch and we should bitch.

Oh, and last night was such a huge difference in playing and coaching that it justifies a 180 change in opinion? I guess we'll agree to disagree.
