UAZipster0305 Posted March 11, 2006 Report Posted March 11, 2006 Last night's game was an unfortunate loss and it frustrates me to see all the bloggers trashing OUR team. Considering where we were two years ago, this program has seen a huge turn around...first 20+ win season in forever (21 wins...I don't count the wind against a D-III school); we were undefeated at home; we made it further in the MAC tournament than ever before; we should still get a post-season bid to the NIT; and next season's prospects look even better. While it's expected that some people are sore over a loss and the manner in which it happened, we shouldn't be pesimistic or questioning KD's abilities as a coach.Peterson should play much more than he does, but other than that, games like the one against UT happen. It's a reality of a long season and a tough stretch run.Keep in mind that with football, we just happened to be on the lucky side of the tie-breaker...had that gone against us, our basketball and football seasons would have been nearly identical...a good season with games that should have been won.Besides, I'd rather see us win a few games in the NIT tournament than get embarassed in the national spot light of the NCAA. Next year is our year to shine at that level. Quote
liljc Posted March 11, 2006 Report Posted March 11, 2006 While I agree with most of what you say, I must take exception to the theory that we're better off not playing in the NCAA Tourney. Who says you're gonna win any games (or even be invited) in the NIT? Who says you would have been embarrassed in the NCAA Tourney? Akron could only get there by winning the MAC. Any teams first goal is to win the conference. So, I ask you, if their main objective is to win the MAC, then how can it be better NOT to win the MAC? Quote
GP1 Posted March 11, 2006 Report Posted March 11, 2006 While the football team backed into the championship game, they still won the game when they got there. Quote
UAZipster0305 Posted March 12, 2006 Author Report Posted March 12, 2006 My comments with regard to the NIT/NCAA Tournament were retrospective in nature. Of course, we'd rather have a MAC Championship and an NCAA Tournament berth; however, a 21 win season and a potential NIT bid makes this season one of the most succesful in school history for a team that didn't have a go to player or superstar. Next season will be even better. As much as I hate to say it, I'll hand it to Can't...they deserved to be champions this year. Also, Toledo was hot at the right time and earned their second place finish. Quote

Can't State deserved the Mac championship, they have the most mature team (with 4 seniors), very good leadership in Haynes and inside presence in Warzynski... I hope they make some noise at the big dance and make a good show case for our conference. But that Toledo team sucks big time, they are 7th seed and they didn't beat us because they're good, we lost to them because we played our worst game of the season. Quote

Looking on the bright side...that wasn't the worst game of the season. The Nevada game was the worst game of the season! Quote
