Bubba4three Posted October 16, 2012 Report Posted October 16, 2012 FWIW http://collegebasketballtalk.nbcsports.com...ngs-the-top-15/ With all that both Akron and Ohio return the lack of respect (at the mid-major) ranks is puzzling. Quote
johnnyzip84 Posted October 16, 2012 Report Posted October 16, 2012 FWIW http://collegebasketballtalk.nbcsports.com...ngs-the-top-15/ Don't forget, we also play AT #1 on this list. Quote
Class of 82 Posted October 16, 2012 Author Report Posted October 16, 2012 Don't forget, we also play AT #1 on this list. Yep... good catch, johnny. I guess I was too busy looking for Akron and Ohio. Quote
taxpayer Posted October 16, 2012 Report Posted October 16, 2012 The opprotunity to earn respect officially begins in 15 days. Quote
mes102 Posted October 17, 2012 Report Posted October 17, 2012 My high school alma mater's basketball program has a saying on the back of all their shirts, hoodies, etc. There was one year, where the saying on the back of the material was: Respect is Earned, NOT Given Let's stop asking for respect, and just grab it by the stronghold. THEN, we may start getting some respect. Win some HUGE non-conference games(and not have any let-down games), then the respect will come. When we beat Mississippi State last year, people took notice... Until we lost the following weekend to Duquesne and Valparaiso... Quote
taxpayer Posted October 17, 2012 Report Posted October 17, 2012 Start mowing grass on October 31st and don't stop mowing until late March. All else is noise. Quote

That Valpo tournament was a costly hiccup last season. These Zips have a chance to be really, really good. These Zips should be really, really good. These Zips should be a tournament team this year. And my confidence level is at an all-time high, because I don't think Akron has ever had better talent top to bottom than this Akron team. But there's a reason they actually play the games. And so many unexpected things can happen, good and bad. I expect we'll enjoy another really exciting ride. Quote
taxpayer Posted October 17, 2012 Report Posted October 17, 2012 Class of 82, I agree with your comments; as stated in another thread, the Zips OCC schedule this year is daunting to say the least. I haven't been around too long but I'd say this is the best (toughest) schedule entered into by the any Zips team. Quote
skip-zip Posted October 23, 2012 Report Posted October 23, 2012 Yes, we certainly need to go out and win when people aren't really paying attention to you. But, lets be honest. It helps to have people on your side at the START of the season. Especially when we might need a contingent of supporters on our side in order to get ranking and post-season consideration in March. So, this at least might indicate that the climb to notoriety this year may be longer than we think. And it's hard to twist that into good news. Quote
