urbanpreppie05
Robertson is to be completely renovated...the entire look of it will be changing, probably something more akin to Union Market. Mini-zee's will be going to 24 hours, but it will have an area with soft seating, tables, and probably an expanded menu. Polsky food court is also on the list to be renovated, mainly so that the SUmmit Students will get the same types of food available at Rob's/SU. Carroll will be torn down, but there are still departments there that do not have homes yet. There is going to be an apparel store in the 1st floor of Honors, so that people can get personalized apparel. This will be great for the Student Orgs, who currently search for T-shirt Pricing, and Greeks who have to go way off campus for apparel. Parking on South campus will be very limited, as we lost spaces due to construction, and we will lose more when auburn deck closes. But since East deck only operates at 60% capacity, people will just have to get used to walking.
Zipsrifle
My entire tenure at UA was dominated by the old, square, unoramented, yellow brick buildings. I have not attachment to any of them so the more that go, the better!

I have not attachment to any of them so the more that go, the better!Yeah. I love all the improvements (and the planned ones too) but on the same token, IT PISSES ME OFF! I didn't have this stuff when I was there!I want a refund, lol, or I want to be able to go back for reduced cost.I remember lifting weights behind the bleachers in the NAT. The iron was sweaty and rusty from the humidity (and if you walked out the south door, you had a look at a nice, shiney, spacious 'varsity weight room'.)Gardner kinda sucked before, atleast comparitively.I even remember coming to campus when I was younger and there was a street (with traffic on in, LOL) running between Kolbe/Beirce all the way down Auburn. Everything was a gray-brown, dirty looking, cubic urban landscape. Comparitively, now it's a little green eden. hehe. The new student rec center pisses me off the most. I want in for free. zipsbandman
We cry about losing MT and UAM, but the real driving force behind everything on campus is the supreme boss. As long as we have LP, the university will continue to improve. They may be begging to come back someday looking at how things are going in Cincy. If not for Dr. Proenza, none of this would be taking place. That guy must be one heck of a salesman because he is convincing the state to shell out all of this money for our school. I can't wait for the new football stadium. I understand that a big part of that project is going to be privately funded.

I can't wait for the new football stadium. I understand that a big part of that project is going to be privately funded. I've personally known a couple of University Presidents and Dr. Proenza impresses me the most even though I have never met the man. I've seen him at baseketball games talking to people, shaking hands, and moving about the JAR. I've never seen another President do that, for one or two when they attended a game it was like a "royal procession" and the peons were expect to bow in awe. Several years ago (when Proenza was new) I became upset about something that the then AD had done that I thought was stupid, so I emailed the AD with my thoughts. Dr. Proenza emailed me back with an explanantion of why the decision was made. For the man to take the time and make the effort to do this impressed the hell out of me, especially since I still don't know how he found out about my email. The iron was sweaty and rusty from the humidity (and if you walked out the south door, you had a look at a nice, shiney, spacious 'varsity weight room'.)My tiny high school was surrounded on 3 sides by corn fields and one side by a melon field. Our athletic teams sucked and THAT weight room put the old UA Varsity Weight Room to shame! I've mentioned it before, and I'll say it again. I think when the stadium is built, the Zips should be playing on "Proenza Field"! The guy is flat out amazing!
urbanpreppie05
UPDATE: Polsky's 3rd floor (food Court, Docuzip, B+N) is going to knock out some walls, replace it with glass, and add, brace yourselves, Starbucks. It hasn't been said if it's going to be a place that sells starbucks or a smaller version of starbucks. Start date: THIS SUMMER
UA Fan
Carroll will be torn down, but there are still departments there that do not have homes yet. That's the one I'm waiting for. If they keep that spot open you would be able to stand there and see a panorama of LJF including the new practice and softball fields, the new Student Union, Buchtel Hall & statue, the new honors dorm, Arts & Sciences building, Memorial Hall (can't win em all), JAR arena, Student Wellness Center & Field House... and... soon... the new football stadium. Hmm, now that I think about it, maybe they could put some kind of an observation platform there. Or a bell tower/carillon. Or a reflecting pool. LosAngelesZipFan
They should shoot to tear down the bulk of those ugly yellow brick buildings...Memorial Hall in particular but Leigh too. They are just ugly, outdated, and reinforce the negative stereotypes of the old UA.
KNCLZip
They should shoot to tear down the bulk of those ugly yellow brick buildings...Memorial Hall in particular but Leigh too. They are just ugly, outdated, and reinforce the negative stereotypes of the old UA. They just finished a massive renovation of the interior of Leigh Hall a couple years ago, including new distance education facilities, classrooms, offices, etc. Unfortunately they didn't change the exterior at all. Leigh Hall isn't going anywhere for at least another few dozen years. (Too bad they didn't redo the exterior in red brick or something.....the interior of the building is now very nice. The exterior is straight out of the past...)

They are just ugly, outdated, and reinforce the negative stereotypes of the old UA.I totally agree but it gets political when you talk about tearing down still-functional buildings to replace them using taxpayers money. I've always wondered why they couldn't just stucco over the ugly brick or somehow refinish the exteriors for a modest price. The major impetus behind all the campus improvements is to attract more/better students but we need to address the eyesores as well as building new stuff. If I had a nice chunk of change to donate I would earmark it for that purpose above all else.
