OSU bent over and got spanked. The last thing Akron needs is more OSU merchandise being sold around here
Yes, people will stop buying OSU merchadise now because the Buckeyes lost in the 2nd Round and the NCAA Tourney...that will happen. Too bad they have the best high school player and the best recruiting class in the nation coming in next year...keep it up though Buckeye haters!

Your right, people won't stop buying OSU merchandise, no one said that. I said "more" which means that because they're not going far in the tournament, you won't see a big increase in sales. I have nothing against you for being a front runner but please read things correctly.

I'll say it again, I'm a UA fan first and foremost. But all this anti-OSU stuff makes us look like we got penis envy. Can we please get the chip off our shoulder. We rarely, if ever conpete with them for recruits. I don't see the reason for the hate.We may compete (and lose) for media time, but that's not going to change unless Ohio State starts bombing hardcore in all of their athletics, which just isn't going to happen, and this is a problem with the local media, not with OSU.

I'm a frontrunner because I like Ohio State? FYI, I started watching OSU football and basketball games when I was 7 years old as both of my parents grew up OSU fans as well. I've followed them ever since, close to 20 years now. Because I graduated from Akron, they come first and foremost obviously, but that doesn't mean I'm just going to stop rooting for the Buckeyes either when they dont even play UA. Zen hit the nail on the head...get over it man

Zips fans should have no problem with Buckeyes fans, as long as they root for the Zips too. My problem with Buckeyes fans is when they go to school with me, and say they don't care about Akron. That frontrunning attitude really chaps my ass.
Explain this to me...why are you a frontrunner if you are a Buckeyes fan?

I think a lot of fans in the MAC know that our conference is in direct competition with the B10, most specifically OSU and Michigan as they overlap our conference footprint. I was thrilled to see all the B10 teams out of the tournament. The worse the Zero State team does the better for the Zips. If people want to cheer Zero State so be it, but don't expect all of the Zips faithful to care about some other school. If a B10 school loses, great!GO ZIPS!!GO MAC!!

I think the problem stems from exactly what has been said here...but root for Ohio State when they are seven like it's the only team in the state of Ohio when in fact there are plenty of schools to root for. I have trouble getting other Akron grads to go to games with me and their excuse is that it's an inferior game of football. Thus I long for a day when a MAC school knocks off Ohio State just to prove it is quality football as well. A few years back when Akron was playing high scoring fun to watch football OSU was playing boring 10-6 game football yet people still chose to stay home and watch it as opposed to venturing to the bowl. The 7 year old who roots for OSU turns into the 20, 30 and 40 year old that roots for OSU instead of Akron more often then not - even if they chose to go to Akron instead of OSU that's the probelm with rooting for OSU. I root for them to lose any chance I can.

I know a bunch of people who go to OSU and they are Zips fans. Now that is odd. Apparently students down there really do believe that OSU is the only school school in Ohio. Akron does compete with them for recruits. I will say, some people have an unnatural hatred of OSU. I knew this fat ass who demanded that, in his presence, OSU be called "An Ohio State University at Columbus." Now that is retarded.

I'm so tired of this "we gotta beat OSU to get respect crap". Sorry people...the MAC is and will continue to be disrespected. It's BS, but it's the truth. Look at basketball...Can't State makes it to the Elite Eight, a few other tourney appearances, has 8 consecutive 20 win seasons, and still, had they lost the MAC Title game wouldn't have touched an at large. People don't look at it as the MAC should be respected...they look at it as it was a one year wonder. Trust me, for those of you that think if Akron beat OSU in a football game that they'd all the sudden be put in the same class as folks, you're fooling yourselves. It'd be looked at as a fluke. They'd have to do it constantly AND dominate the MAC to get that kind of respect...and I frankly just don't see that happening. Face it, OSU is the premier university athletic program in Ohio. The history, the tradition, the national recognition, the fan support, and the lots and lots of winning have put them head and shoulders against the rest of the Ohio schools. And if you think that's changing anytime soon, maybe you better look at the rankings for basketball recruiting classes coming in next year (Greg Oden anyone?), or at some of the recruits OSU brought in (Wells, etc). Both of their football and basketball teams will be competing for a National Title, while we just hope to make it back to the postseason at all. They are a major program, we are a mid-major...you can root against them or talk about fans not being faithful if they cheer for them or whatever else...but nothing's going to change the current situation.

but if say Can't had gone to the ncaa tourney every year and won in the first round at the very least, then they would have respect like gonzaga has gained. they never backed it up. while it is true that we wouldn't gain much, it's a starting place and if we continued to win more than once, then we would get our respect. it all starts with a win though.

Because you didn't go to school there. OSU represents its students, alumni, faculty, and maybe on a reach, the parents of students, but that is it. The problem is everyone thinks that OSU represents the state of Ohio because they are called Ohio State University. That logic only applys to pro sports (rooting for the team in your area). Using that logic, Ohio U should also be considered Ohio's team. OSU has a monopoly over the average Joe fan (most of who didn't go to college at all) base because they (and Cincinnati, although no one looks at them that way) are the only BCS schools in the state. Try living in California or Florida where there are a lot of choices to choose from. Example: My father graduated from USC, but I doubt he would use the Ohio logic that says you should be a Cal fan because you live in California. Put it in that context and you can see just how ridiculous your argument is. Root for your school and be proud, but don't be concerned about someone elses school. I hate that school down south. About the only time I root for them is when they play Michigan, but I really don't care who wins that game either.

We're getting silly now. I grew up in northeast Ohio and became a fan of college football as a young child. Sooo watching enoguh of it, I'm not going to find a favorite team? Gimme a break. Possibly the worst part of your response when you say OSU gets the average Joe who, according to you, is uneducated beyond high school. I'll try to make this clear for some of your OSU haters to understand. When people grow up in areas of Ohio that aren't close to any particular college, OSU usually becomes the default. Why? Let's see:- The are the biggest athletic program in Ohio. Whether you want to admit it or not, in college sports they DO represent Ohio the most nationally. - They by far have the most tradition of any of the Ohio schools in athletics. Ohio State was playing for and winning National Titles before Akron even had a D1 football program. That makes a difference folks, because being a fan of a team gets passed down through families.- They win, and win big. For younger kids who don't attend colleges but love colege football, they are an easy choice to become their favorite team.I'm sorry, but growing up I had no allegiance to Akron. I didn't grow up near Akron (or any other Ohio schools really). I did, however, love college football. My parents were both Buckeyes fans, so it all seemed natural to me to become one as well. I've followed them ever since, even during the rough years of Bellisari lol. By no means I'm a frontrunner. As for the predictions of OSU sucking next year...I think I'm going to save that and see what you guys say at the end of the college football season. If you really think OSU is losing 5 games next year, you're an idiot or letting your OSU hatrad/jealousy/envy get farrr too much in the way of your predictions.

I understand it when someone who never went to college and likes college BB cheers for a team that he likes. I also understand it when in a certain season, you like how a certain team is playing and you bet on them and watch their games. For example, last year, i liked illinois. but this year i feel that villanova is the best team. However, i never buy any villanova or illinois gear, i never call them my teams. I also didn't like it when OSU lost to g'town not because they are my team but only because i thought that they deserved a sweet 16 spot. see the difference ? !!!!Most of you guys have never been in any Buckeyes games and probably never been on their campus at all, and if you did, you probably attend no more than 1 or 2 games a season and yet you call the buckeyes your team and buy their gear and refuse to go to akron games because you are better than that !The analogy that comes to my mind here is some father whose kid is not doing very good at school, so he visits his class and pick the smartest student there and start calling him his son ! Now even though the smart kid is not related to him and doesn't live in his house and doesn't even know his name, he still calls him son and doesn't care about his real son whom he left crying at home.Similarly, your school would be playing on your campus, where you can attend the games for free (if you are a student) and sit in the student section (or attend an alumni pre-game event), yet you prefer to watch a TV game for a school that is not yours just because they are better !

I think you're missing the argument of many. We aren't saying that we cheer for OSU and not Akron. Akron is my #1 team, I go to every game possible, and will always cheer for them against anyone. And I, like many, also love OSU. Akron #1, OSU #2
