i know that it is early but i am really happy to read on places like ohiovarsity.com about top players in the state that are really looking at akron this year! i know that we won't get all of them but there wasn't news like this on the zips last year. just for a topic starter if you could recruit high school talent for akron what states would take priority?for me ohio would be at the top followed by pa (mostly western pa) then fla. :screwks:

Good topic, but I wouldn't want the coaches to base decisions on states. I would want them to look at the best players possible regardless of their home state. Your suggested states do seem to fit with what the program is doing though, but they seem to get quality from the mid-atlantic states as well. There is no evidece that recruiting only local or native Ohio players serves any benefit to the program. It did not increase attendance and it did not increase winning during the years prior to Brookhart.Marshall won a heck of a lot of games in the MAC with kids from all over the country. We should do what Marshall did. They were the best program for most of the time they were in the MAC.If you want to take it one step further, look at Ohio State. Regardless of opinions about them, they are one of the best college football teams in the country. Look at their roster. They draw players from all over the country because they want the best players.

Good posts, if we do start getting good kids from Ohio, it tells me that there is a new respect closer to home. JD said in the past that the old perceptions are most closely linked around here and recruiting is easier further away. Anyone we get is going to be good. If we get 5-6 local kids next year, that would these were kids high on everyone's list and they picked us. We will win with or without them, but I do think it is good for our reputation locally to continue to improve.

great posts guys! i also think it would be great to get zipsdad57's opinion on this topic... what was it like when considering akron the first time as compaired to the second time around. and for anyone else that has ties to high school football how are the zips being preceived? i truely think that keeping some of the great local talent will be the key to long term success! if akron can step that up and continue to improve in areas like fla, western pa, and the d.c. area that the zips can really have something special there! :screwks:
