RatFink Posted March 31, 2006 Report Posted March 31, 2006 Once again all the schools not consideredamong the elite took a major face slapwith the AP "electing" North Carolina'sRoy Williams their college coach of the year. Are they serious? All Williams did wasguide umpteen former McDonald'sAll Americans to a top ten (in their poll)finish. Mike Garland, the recentlyfired coach of Cleveland State, couldhave done at least as much with thattalent pool. The AP voting was "Williams received29 votes, followed by Jay Wright of Villanova with 15 and Bruce Pearl of Tennessee with 11."There were 72 voters. These three mengot 55 of the vote total. That spreadsthe remaining 17 votes thinly enoughthat Jim Laranaga of George Masonreceived less than 11, if any at all.Jim Laranaga is the consensus coach ofthe year among college basketball fans. AK-Zips Posted April 1, 2006 Report Posted April 1, 2006 you DO know that the voting is done beofre any postseason play don't you? Because of this, Williams IS the 2005-06 coach of the year. Quote
GoZips Posted April 1, 2006 Report Posted April 1, 2006 Williams might be your coach of the year, but he ain't mine. I agree with RATFINK.Voting for coach or player of the year prior to the post tournament(s) is like braggingthat your girl friend is pregnant before you got lucky. As the immortal Yogi Berra claimed, "it ain't over 'till its over". AK-Zips Posted April 1, 2006 Report Posted April 1, 2006 oh yes, i wagree with the two of you. I am just stating that the voting is done before any of this post season cinderella stuff happened. If the post season was included in the voting you may get a different winner indeed. Quote

"All" Williams did was lose every player that contributed to his team. "All" Williams did was mold a young inexperienced team to a top ten. "All" Williams did was lead a underclassmen laiden team through a senior dominated ACC. If you're saying he doesn't deserve it you are just plain ingorant. After the run to the Final Four I could see the George Mason coach getting some consideration, but like AK-Zips said the voting is before the post season. If you can tell me one coach that did a better job in the regular season please enlighten me since you seem to speak for all college basketball fans. One thing we can all agree on is... Quote
