Akron Women vs CMU

Both teams playing their third game in three days, but so far no signs of fatigue from either side.

Luburgh picking up where she left off yesterday. 8 points and 2 boards from her.

Zips lead 26-24 with under 6 minutes left in the first half.

The ladies have been crashing the offensive boards hard and it has led to some easy buckets.

Go Zips!

We need King, Young and Tecca to become better artists (you know they have to keep the Chipps out of the paint). The only reason the Chipps are leading is domination on shots from two feet and offensive rebounds. Tough to do but if the ladies can get that one figured out, they will win this one. Go Zips!

Yep, a rotation of only six players is tough. Zips played hard but need more depth. Chipps dominated them in the paint, rebounding and turnovers. Tough to win a game if you lose those three categories. Great season though and they have a shot an NIT bid.

I'd say they are more than deserving of an NIT bid with a 23-9 record.

Congrats on the great season to the ladies, nonetheless.

I concur. The fly in the ointment is just where Toledo goes.

IMhO ... Toledo deserves and has earned an at large NCAA bid. Of course, getting it would enhance Akron's chance

at an NIT bid.

The CBI/CBT are last resorts. Neither are worthy of the effort the Lady Zips put forth.

And, as always ... I WANT AKRON OUT OF THE MAC

There are now 64 teams in the WNIT field -- so we will be in. The bracket is usually announced very late on the night that the NCAA selection occurs (Monday). I was familiar with it when it started out as an 8-team field. OK -- I forget, it may have been 16 teams. Akron did play in this event in Cheryl Bowles' freshman season I believe -- after Can't got upset at losing the MACC and put up a hissy fit. I would be upset if Akron is not in the top half of the field. I don't know whether they have a shot at the home court -- but since the AD has to put in the bid credentials and say how much $$ they can put up front (attendance/box office), I wouldn't be counting on it.

Sorry Gozips, but we are in the MAC for the DURATION! ;)

An interesting thing to note about the WNIT is that every conference gets an automatic bid.

Thirty-one (31) spots in the Postseason WNIT will be filled automatically by the best team available in each of the nation’s 31 established conferences, after the NCAA Tournament committee makes its picks.

A team that is offered an automatic berth by the WNIT shall be the team that is a.) the highest-finishing team in its conference’s regular-season standings, and b.) is then not selected for the NCAA Tournament. It does not matter what the team’s overall record is. For the automatic qualifying berth, the WNIT believes that a team’s conference record is a more fair comparison among teams within their own conference, and that the conference record should pre-empt overall records among teams from the same conference. The automatic qualifying team is rewarded with the AQ spot for its in-conference play.

Should a conference’s automatic qualifier team decline the WNIT invitation, then the conference forfeits its AQ spot and that berth goes into the at-large pool.

In the event of a tie among teams under consideration for the WNIT automatic berth, the WNIT will abide by conference bylaws that have been set up specifically to address a tiebreaking situation in that specific conference.

In the event of a tie among teams with identical conference records and there are no specific bylaws to address it, the WNIT will recognize the conference tiebreaker, and select the team with the best seed for its conference tournament.

Multiple-division conferences receive one WNIT automatic berth. The qualifying process is the same as that for single-division conferences. However, if a conference designates more than one top seed (i.e. a No. 1 seed for each division), then the conference office shall determine, before its conference tournament begins, a seeding order for WNIT purposes.

So Toledo gets the automatic bid. There are 33 at-large slots.
