w00t
Quality event with ESPN exposure against a quality opponent... great way to start the season! Edit: Just saw the start time was 3AM, not midnight... well, still a quality opponent even if no one but the faithful will be watching at that hour. This is an awesome opportunity for all the Akron fans in Hawaii to see our team in prime time at 9 PM (or ten if after the time change), if we cannot make the trip to Moraga. Thanks Keith! Dave in Green
SI has nice things to say about the Zips in this game (my boldface): Akron at Saint Mary’s (3 a.m. EST) Both teams made the NCAAs last season, and Akron may have the better chance of returning despite losing 7-footer Zeke Marshall. This is another game, especially for the road-standing Zips, that could be a key feather in an at-large profile down the road. Things won’t be the same, at least not immediately, for the Gaels without Matthew Dellavedova running the show.
Dave in Green
So does ESPN (again, my boldface): Akron at Saint Mary’s, 3 a.m. ET, ESPN2: This midnight local tip -- you know, were it not for time zones, this whole Marathon thing would be a lot harder to pull off -- features two of the best mid-major programs of the past decade. You're likely already familiar with Saint Mary's, which has crept up on (and even briefly unseated) Gonzaga in the West Coast Conference in recent years. But Akron coach Keith Dambrot has taken the Zips to the tournament in three of the past five seasons, including as a 12-seed in 2012-13. Recovering from the loss of super-efficient center Zeke Marshall won't be easy (to say nothing of the Alex Abreu ordeal), but Akron has almost everyone else back and is ready to push toward another postseason berth, and then some. It's funny how SI and ESPN think more of what the Zips are accomplishing than some Zips fans posting right here on this forum.
taxpayer
Tuesday Nov 12th at midnight west coast time and 3am east coast time. The Zips better be getting big time cash for this. I hope the Zips are planning on spending the weekend in Cali preparing because we typically practice in the morning during the season so the player's internal clocks will be totally messed up. Trying to play a good opponent after flying across the country at 3am (our time) is just asking for trouble. The players are apt to be zombies

This is because they have a better look into what goes on at Akron. The fans of NE Ohio are conditioned to expect and accept failure. ESPN and SI know better. Summer practice began June 10th and ends this Thursday. While the fans were invited to drop in and take a look; few did. Perhaps ten to twelve souls bothered to stop by. I attended nearly all the practices and have a solid appreciation for who the Zips will be in the Fall. This will be a better team on and off the floor than last season. Losing Zeke hurts. He has two successors that have an excellent chance of making their own marks. Their styles are different, but the talent level is just as good. Tree and Jake along with Nick Harney ably cover the small and power forward slots. The guards are Quincy Diggs, Reggie McAdams, Nyles Evans and Carmelo Betancourt. Where Deji Ibitayo fits is up to him. Deji has made great improvement in his game. Can he keep composed on court remains to be determined. Most likely the talented freshmen may have to bide their time. Which is a good thing.
taxpayer
I still contend that a couple defensive players are imperative to the Zips continuing the 20 win and MAC Finalist traditions. Yes, all players mentioned are good athletic and talented; they wouldn't be here if they weren't. Defensive stops and unselfish play will be the challenges this year. Tree and Q will be this group's leaders and they have to set the standard on both accounts.

Is thursday the last day as in they have practice thursday, or thursday they don't have practice? I live in Cleveland currently, and don't take summer classes, so I'm not going to come on campus, and wait around all day when I don't know the times for practice to give the parking ticket guy time to give check my car out while I wait. So if there is practice thursday, what time?
