GP1
http://www.al.com/sports/mobileregister/in...5760.xml&coll=3Since our conference and all of us may be impacted by this, I just wanted to post it. Is there anyone out there excited about a January 7 bowl game? I'll throw a fit about this later after I see all of your imput. It makes almost no sense on almost every level. zipboy
For me personally this makes it a lot easier to travel to Mobile on Jan 7th vs a week before Christmas. Spending a weekend in the South after the holidays have died down would be quite enjoyable. How about from a practice perspective? Do we get an extra 2 weeks of practice with this game or are there only so many practices allowed regardless?
liljc
I'll agree with you %100. No way I could ever make that game in December, but January is wide open.
mcperp
Obviously, it's purely about attempting to garner more tv ad revenue for ESPN since it's the sole college bowl on the 7th. It's hard to imagine much national interest in this contest with the exception of the gambling public...hmm, on second thought perhaps this is a stroke of genius. Zipsrifle
If Akron makes it to the GMAC Bowl, I WILL BE THERE! Sure, I don't have a lot of vacation time, but it is a new year and I might as well smoke 'em while I got 'em!

College football fans are almost forced to watch if your the only game on, plus it is bowl season, you start watching teams you might not have gotten to see just cause 1. they don't televise that team because of region or 2. your just curious as to what other teams look like or how they would compare to your favorite team. I think having a later bowl game will garner more exosure for the conference.
GP1
OK, you guys are starting to sway my opinion. My biggest problem is that my wife is an accountant and it is almost impossible for her to take time off during year end. I'd still rather play in Detroit or Toronto anyhow.I don't know how much interest there will be on NFL Wild Card Weekend. The NFL seems to suck the air out of anything going on around it. Zipsrifle
Detroit would be preferable, and not just because it's close to my house. More Akron fans will come to Detroit because of location (short drive). Obviously, now, I just want to go to another bowl!

Until you go to the GMAC bowl and see the atmosphere, which beats the MCB by a long shot, then of course you would prefer going to Detroit. ZachTheZip
I think the date change is an excellent idea. Sort of like the pre-game show for the BCS game. It is great exposure for the teams involved.
Zipsrifle
Granted there isn't much pregame atmosphere at the MCB, but there won't be much at the GMAC bowl either since the Akron fans will be few and far between. IMO, I would rather take a lot of Akron fans than nice weather.
UADavid
Until you go to the GMAC bowl and see the atmosphere, which beats the MCB by a long shot, then of course you would prefer going to Detroit.Who thinks this way? The season hasn't started and a fan doesn't want to win the MAC championship? The MAC champion plays in the MCB and the GMAC gets a MAC or WAC team to play a CUSA team. There could be a scenario where the MAC champion plays in another bowl but has that happened? I want Akron to play in the MCB untill the league kicks us out from sheer frustration. msopher has had too much atmosphere, someone give him oxygen. ps. Why doesn't the mac champs emoticon work? It sends out errors.
Ryno aka Menace
I would rather have a nice fan presence at the MCB, on national television, it equates to better exposure for the university, which equals better recruits which equals a win against Columbus State in 2008!!! Zip Watcher
ps. Why doesn't the mac champs emoticon work? It sends out errors. Good question. I'll look into it shortly. Not sure what the deal with that is.

ZachTheZip
I'm not sure where I saw this, but I am almost 100% positive that the #1 MAC team plays at the GMAC bowl against the #2 C-USA team. The #2 MAC team plays at the MCB against the #8 Big-10 team. The #3 MAC team plays in the International Bowl in Toronto this year.
