http://www.al.com/sports/mobileregister/in...5760.xml&coll=3Since our conference and all of us may be impacted by this, I just wanted to post it. Is there anyone out there excited about a January 7 bowl game? I'll throw a fit about this later after I see all of your imput. It makes almost no sense on almost every level.

For me personally this makes it a lot easier to travel to Mobile on Jan 7th vs a week before Christmas. Spending a weekend in the South after the holidays have died down would be quite enjoyable. How about from a practice perspective? Do we get an extra 2 weeks of practice with this game or are there only so many practices allowed regardless?

Obviously, it's purely about attempting to garner more tv ad revenue for ESPN since it's the sole college bowl on the 7th. It's hard to imagine much national interest in this contest with the exception of the gambling public...hmm, on second thought perhaps this is a stroke of genius.

I think this is a good thing. College football fans are almost forced to watch if your the only game on, plus it is bowl season, you start watching teams you might not have gotten to see just cause 1. they don't televise that team because of region or 2. your just curious as to what other teams look like or how they would compare to your favorite team. I think having a later bowl game will garner more exosure for the conference.

OK, you guys are starting to sway my opinion. My biggest problem is that my wife is an accountant and it is almost impossible for her to take time off during year end. I'd still rather play in Detroit or Toronto anyhow.I don't know how much interest there will be on NFL Wild Card Weekend. The NFL seems to suck the air out of anything going on around it.

Until you go to the GMAC bowl and see the atmosphere, which beats the MCB by a long shot, then of course you would prefer going to Detroit.

Who thinks this way? The season hasn't started and a fan doesn't want to win the MAC championship? :nutkick: The MAC champion plays in the MCB and the GMAC gets a MAC or WAC team to play a CUSA team. There could be a scenario where the MAC champion plays in another bowl but has that happened? I want Akron to play in the MCB  untill the league kicks us out from sheer frustration. :wall: msopher has had too much atmosphere, someone give him oxygen. :thumb: ps. Why doesn't the mac champs emoticon work? It sends out errors.

Are you sure the MAC Champion automatically gets the MCB? I thought they did not send a MAC team two years in a row, but I'm not certain.

I'm not sure where I saw this, but I am almost 100% positive that the #1 MAC team plays at the GMAC bowl against the #2 C-USA team.
July 14, 2006Bowl Officials announced today that this year's 8th Annual GMAC Bowl has been rescheduled for Sunday, January 7, 2007 beginning at 8 p.m. EST at Ladd=Peebles Stadium. The GMAC Bowl will be shown nationally on ESPN and will feature teams from Conference USA versus the Mid American Conference or the Western Athletic
* The Motor City Bowl features the MAC #1 selection vs. the Big Ten #7 selection. The Big Ten must have at least seven bowl-eligible teams to send a team to the Motor City Bowl; or at least eight bowl-eligible teams if the Big Ten places two teams in the BCS.
Taken from the MCB website.
