Dunk
My wife and I are planning to attend the game in Akron on September 20th, and are looking for some advice from the locals. This is part of our annual vacation as we always make sure to incorporate one Marshall away game into the trip. We plan on staying in Akron on the 19th and 20th for the game, and then we will venture off from there. We still have no idea where we are going after so if anybody has some suggestions within a reasonable driving distance that would be great as well. The main purpose of this message is to get some ideas on the best hotels (factor in ease of getting to the stadium) and the best resturaunts we should visit while in town.Looking forward to a great game, and my first time in Akron as I am a younger fan so I didn't travel when we were playing more often.Need any further details just ask... Bleacher Bum
If you like pizza, you need to check out Luigi's, and if you want a quick burger, try Swensons. It's a drive in, and it's superb. If you go to Luigi's, bring cash, they don't take cards.
Balsy
Welcome Dunk! Luigi's is excellent: If you venture there bring cash, as they don't accept cards. A local favorite, and a personal favorite of mine, is a place called "Lockeview" which is downtown. It's a grilled cheese/beer place, they also have very good soup. All beers are micro-brews, lot of local beers are good there. Haven't had a beer there that I didn't like. All their breads for the grilled cheese is baked at a local bakery next door. Lockeview was named 1 of the 33 best bars in America by Thrillist.Since you say you're a younger fan...perhaps you might like a strip called "Highland Square". It's a short couple mile drive from downtown Akron. There's a couple of nice places there: Mary Coils is a mom and pop Italian place that makes it's own Ice Cream. Aladdin's (A Mediterranean restaurant), Mr. Zubs, a pretty epic local sandwich spot. On the drive to Highland Square you'll drive by LeBron James high school: St. Vincent St. Mary's. Not that it's any big deal...but if you're in to that kinda thing.
Dunk
It sounds like I will definitely make a stop at Luigi's since I always try some local pizza place just about anywhere I go. Thanks for the tip on needing cash there.Any recommendations on hotels near the stadium or anything? It just hit me today that the game is only a month away so I need to nail down a room somewhere haha
K92
I would suggest staying at the Doubletree on Market Street in Fairlawn. If you are a craft beer fan you could hit up the Lizardville down the street for dinner.
OldZipFan
If your coming up north to Akron on I-77 through Canton, at exit 118 (Massillon Road) there is the Cambria Suites & Hotel. At exit 120 (Arlington Road) you'll find five hotels.1. Comfort Inn Akron 2873 S. Arlington Rd.2. Red Roof Inn South Akron 2939 S. Arlington Rd3. Hampton Inn South Akron 880 Arlington Ridge East4. Residence Inn by the Marriott Akron 897 Arlington Ridge East5. Holiday Inn Express Hotel & Suites 898 Arlington Ridge EastThe University and stadium are 3-4 miles north of exit 120. When heading north you'll come across a central interchange with the sign that says I-77 West, don't follow it. You want to keep going straight on (Route 8 Cuyahoga Falls). After the interchange you want to get off at the first exit which is Buchtel Ave. At the light, go left over the bridge and make a left at the next light, and the stadium will be on the right.
