I wouldn't worry too much about the name of the section...you'll still hear the chants. It seems like every once in a while they come up with something stupid to "name" student sections. The precursor to the AK-Rowdies for basketball was "Zips Zoo." Similar? I think so! We do have that foundation now, bottom line. And if we keep winning and keep building dorms (on campus students tend to be more active in athletics events, being a commuter school in the pas HAS hurt the Zips support) and you will continue to see the excitement and participation expand, no matter what they name the section. GO ZIPS and see you Sept 23 from the front row of the 'Zoo. GO ZIPS!

i also think that with the success of ak-rowdies last year, students will still be chanting AK-ROWDY! i agree that "roo zoo" is one of the most retarded things i've heard and even "zips zoo" was better.

Just 4 the record: The AK-ROWDIES Live!!!!!!! The group is not being changed from what I hear, just the section name of where they are putting you crazy kids. Go zips can't wait to beat PSU.

Agreed, we need to establish more of a tradition rather than change stuff every single year. AK rowdies is an awesome name, and it is a name that has always been used by students of Akron.

If student support starts to slip and the zips start to lose. I blame the Roo Zoo. I don't care if it had nothing to do with it. Congrats to the AD for using all of 3 brain cells in coming up with roo zoo. whats next? maybe they will name the locker room the Hip Zip Pit.

For a while when the end zone was the student section and someone decided it should be called the "Zip Zone". Obviously that didn't last. There used to be some kegs in the end zone before the RB went dry.

actually zips zone still lives, just not as a name of a student section. each sport chooses one home event as thier zips zone event, and as a show of support and unity among athletes all the other athletes are supposed to go to at least that one event.

There is no way the "Roo Zoo" will be the new name of the AK-Rowdies. Most of the students don't even know about the change, and I doubt they will accept it. I don't care what they call the area we sit in. The students will still be AK-Rowdy, and to be honest I think Roo Zoo sounds better than the Student Section.

The new AD or the new UAM is probably just trying to put their own "mark" on things. I hope they sit back and watch for a year or so before shaking too much up. We need tradition around here, and just when it gets started (as in the last few years) we get a new administration that thinks they have to create tradition again. Please.
