skip-zip
If the Governor thinks costs at public universities in the State of Ohio are too high, I wonder if he'll ask his alma mater (OSWho) to stop spending millions more than everyone else in the state on Athletics?Actually, maybe the Governor should suggest that we take the $150k+ per athlete that OSWho spends each year, and spread that around to the rest of the D-1 schools. Why would anyone care? If any of us wins, it's good for all of us. Right? TeamOhio ?

The Governor has demonstrated time and time again that he doesn't care much for the funding for public institutions.
roopride
Guys making over $200k for the positions in the paper today is ridiculous. What real risk do these guys manage?
Dave in Green
Dr. Scarborough's strong financial background that helped make him a top candidate to lead UA in the current economic environment is clearly evident in his intelligent response to this issue:And at a time when Akron would like to build a new basketball arena on campus, the governor is calling for schools to sell off assets. Scarborough hopes that idea is not simply to solve a short-term problem.“As long as you’re not selling assets to fill a one-time need then it’s something that could be a legitimate decision that a university might make. You don’t want to sell an asset that has a 30 year revenue stream in order to solve a one year problem.”

ZachTheZip
You want to cut something, cut the number of administrative positions.
morris buttermaker
it will be interesting to see the results of the Can't State study.... I think as the big schools move towards a separation from the NCAA, you may see the Akrons and Kents of the world deemphasize the level of commitment ($) towards sports. The MAC and many other conferences spend way too much (IMO), for what they generate or cost. The value of MAC sports is slightly above HS, yet schools spend a ton. ---I said value, not level of play--
LosAngelesZipFan
De-emphasize... or perhaps work together? Something has to change... unsustainable situation right now...
