Akron's Landmine game

Recommended Posts

I totally disagree. That game against Can't is pretty much a home game for us anyhow. And we should have a little bit of momentum after possibly beating one BCS team (most likely NCSU, but we have a shot against PSU) and winning the other two games (CMU and North Texas). I don't think there is any way Can't will beat us. :screwks: Yes, we will also win against Cincy.

In 2003 we didn't have the MAC's best defense and the MAC's best QB. Can't will have improved from last year (how could they get any worse?), but Akron has way too much talent to let them beat us. If there is a land mine game, it is Central Michigan. We need to beat them in order to start the conference play off on the right foot.

In 2003, we allowed Can't to score 17 points in the final 3:29 to win in regulation on a last second fieldgoal.
I still refer to this game as the "Divine Intervention Game", because only through divine intervention could we have lost that game and it happened.

This is one of several measures of whether or not Brookhart is a value added coach.Every team has games that appear to be a sure win on paper or the topic described "landmind game.". What happens is that this presumptiousness is bought into by the team. There is no way human beings can avoid falling into this trap. Being overconfident is part and parcel of being human. But early identification and remedial action by astute, aware leadership (the cosch) can be the antidote to survive the inevitable snares.Effective coaches refuse to let their teams lose games because players went into the game not properly focused. If the team survives"landmind" games on a consistent basis then you have a coach that is a leader and a big time winner. Is Brookhart going to be this kind of coach?

Even when we play this type of "supposedly guarranteed" games like Buffalo and Can't.I don't see why would the players not play to their maximum potential. For one, whatever the score is, you can always score more. and second, they can use it to improve their overall statistics. The same when we used to play the so called "impossible games" in the past, even if you are losing by 4 TD in the fourth quarter, go out and do your best.

Well said but this is a trait that some say the have in them but don't, and that is sometimes the difference between a 4 star and 3 star athlete.
