Since the subject of JD's future was broached (not like we could enjoy this win for 24 hours before seeing the cloud for the silver lining) but I gotta tell you, this was NOT a coaching gem on JD's part. Tons of penalties, confusion, really bad play calling, and at times an outright lack of focus and discipline (all on offense). To me this looks like a coach with potential that needs alot of seasoning before he is ready to move up and get trusted with an better established program. Don't get me wrong, I love the guy. I am SO HAPPY what he has done with the program. But there are still tons of mental lapses happening that should be coached out. He is also not instilling the kill instinct-- how do we not get a first down with 3 minutes left to seal this game?I would agree with these statements. I believe we can celebrate and still discuss aspects of the game. I didn't like the play selection in the second half. Why can't we throw to our big tight ends? Kennedy needs more rest during the game. We already proved we couldn't protect Getsy with an empty backfield and we continued to run plays that left him a sitting duck. Why couldn't we have a pro set and keep one of the backs in to help out. I thought crouch had another bad game. We were lucky when he tried to get thrown out of the game that he didn't come back in. Did you see him mouthing off and following the ref? Whoever grabbed him and took him off the field should get their sprints cut in half. That's a senior captain team leader??? JD seems to be slowly coming around to the realization that he is a liability on the field. He can't move his feet!!! They moved Kemme to left tackle after the facemask penalty on crouch and drove 96 yards for a touchdown. The defense was the key to this win. I can't say enough good things about the way they played. Well done. What a fantastic win for this program. If we could just go for the jugular and ease my pain at those close finishes. Sorry to those who don't like my post. These are things I needed to say today.
fear the brown roo
i agree that crouch is hurting us. i don't know if he's hurting still from last week or if he just can't move, period. i was told that he was very heavy in the off season. i appreciate his enthusiasm and drive but i do feel he has to do a better job not only controling himself but also moving his feet. our line appears to improve greatly with kemme playing left tackle and schepp at right. maybe different and better plays were called during the last two drives. whatever it was, i hope we stick with it. you am i
i just read the raleigh newspaper's online story about the game and they quoted a NCST linebacker talking about getsy's performance on the last drive, "that is one of the most composed quarterbacks i've ever seen." ZipAnalyst
I remember Crouch hurting us last year with personal file penalties. Maybe we found out today that we have an alternative for him as starter and he will be a backup for the remainder of his senior season. If that happens, he has brought it on himself. What a downer after putting 4 years in and especially when the team is on the brink of being a big winner.I agree that we can discuss problems in the midst of our celebration. Maybe we will be heard and in this way contribute to having future occasions to celebrate.
Zipsrifle
Why can't we throw to our big tight ends?Agreed! Kasparek was huge last year in Detroit. I would like to see him get his hands on the ball more!
zippyrifle32
We already proved we couldn't protect Getsy with an empty backfield and we continued to run plays that left him a sitting duck. Why couldn't we have a pro set and keep one of the backs in to help out. i completely disagree. getsy had PLENTY of time on several of his plays, but decided to wait, then scramble, then throw it away. the drives at the end were when he didn't stand around but passed right away. i think he's more effective with the quicker releases. o-line did fine. i don't expect them to be able to keep the d away for 10 minutes while our qb is picking his nose. i will say, however, that the o line did have too many penalties. LosAngelesZipFan
YES YES YES-- WHERE WAS KASPAREK? I love that guy-- I think he is (literally and figuratively) a HUGE weapon and was totally underutilized today.BTW, I love that we can actually pick at a win over a BCS school-- that smells like real progress to me.There are 2 very disturbing things I see in the first two games: (1) penalties-- don't need to say much more, but it is ridiculous; (2) the sudden loss of focus. The 2nd qtr of Penn State and much of the 2nd half of this game the offense just seemed to go into a trance-- they seemed disorganized and tentative. How many series in the 3rd qtr ended up with us punting from inside our 10 after some bad plays and a penalty. We also need some speed in the backfield. Loving Kennedy but he seems a bit slow to hit the hole, like a half step slow. Do we have any burner tailbacks someplace? Regardless, it would be nice to see some more rotation so Kennedy gets some rest. The kicking game is just a problem and will remain so all year clearly. Given the situation, I think the punter is holding up very well.I wouldn't say this win was pure luck--it was a win of inches (like, the inch under Kennedy's knee as he dove for the goal line)-- because I think on balance we deserved to win the game. But what is really chewing at me is that this could have been a really big win, one that looked dominating and sent a real message instead of feeling like we escaped with a W. We had approximately 75 offensive plays. getsy had PLENTY of time on several of his plays several2 entries found for several. To select an entry, click on it. several[1,adjective]several[2,pronoun, plural in construction] Main Entry: 2severalFunction: pronoun, plural in construction: an indefinite number more than two and fewer than many Which were the several plays you refer to? zippyrifle32
the majority of ones that were in the third quarter where i could scream "throw the damn ball" about five times before he threw it away. i know some of it was that he didn't want to chance it (and we don't get to see the recievers being covered on tv), but watch the game again and see how much time he gets. i'm just saying this can't be completely blamed on the o-line. oh yeah...harvey is a beast! UADavid
I'm not sure, but I may have seen a pick. Of course it was a bad angle and he may have been rubbing his nose. It was a great win for the program and that is the most important part of todays game. Harvey looks like the real deal.
