This win should help recruiting

Hopefully we will keep winning, and this will help us on the recruiting front. Now the problem is will the recruits come here knowing JD will probably be gone?
I think JD's name has just been added to a few more athletic director "watch" lists. I sure wish we could find a Frank Beamer that comes in, completely turns around a struggling program, and decides to make Akron the place he wants to be. I say it often - I HATE being a mid-major stepping stone. I recognize that is the type of school we are but that doesn't mean I have to like it. Great win yesterday and I hope we can focus this week on what we have to do to come home with another 'W' at Central. Would LOVE to see the Rubber Bowl filled and rockin' in a couple of weeks.

I think alot of you guys are way ahead of yourselves if you feel that JD will be gone in the next two seasons. Unless he is offered a premiere job (e.q. Upper level BCS school) I just don't think he'll leave. Also NC State is not good enough of a team this year to warrant a media fenzy like Urban Meyer had at Utah so we'll be fine. Had we beat Penn State as well that would be another story.

If we beat CMU, expect a Sell out or at least 30,000+ for the North Texas game. They're going to have to take down that tarp.
um... you do realize that a bunch on the bleachers under the tarps are broken, right? that is the secondary reason for them being covered. As i understand it capacity will fluctuate from 21,000-25,000 depending on the smaller tarps used on the sides of the larger endzone tarp. I would say 24,000 is expected if we beat CMU. if we lose then i would expect around 20,000. Either way, it was a solid win for us yesterday!

A couple of things we need to realize (in my humble opinion). It is time to think differently about everything related to Akron sports. We need a self-esteem adjustment. We no longer have to be so fearful that we will not be able to replace talent -- Akron is a sports program that talented AD's and coaches want to come to. When we have had to replace our coaches and AD -- we got great resumes. It is rumored that Senior AD's at USC, Maryland, Arkansas and Notre Dame wanted the job. Mack was selected because he built a program at UTEP that needed to get to next level just like Akron -- increased donor giving, fan base, He was the best man for the job from amongst a talented pool. When we lost our soccer coaching staff -- we had great coaches interested and they were actually calling Akron. Caleb Porter -- awesome, talented, better recruiter than Lolla, only lost one player to Lolla -- what more is there to say. Track -- Dennis Mitchell and his assistants are arguably the among the best coaches in the nation. are WBB. now we had no where to go but up and I think we did that too. Jodi Kest is an awesome recruiter and will get us all the Ohio and Penn talent we need to be competitive. She wanted to come to Akron. JD's top two assistant coaches -- Morehead and Fleming would be great choices if JD get's a nod. Great facilities (field house where the NFL teams practice for Hall of Fame game) only to get better with stadium in 2008, great looking campus, competitive teams -- we are the place that talented professionals want to be on their way up. That is a good thing. "Has beens" on their way down have never worked out. JD has to do more than win one MAC championship with a mediocre record and win one game against a middle of the pack ACC team to prove that he is even the best MAC coach. JD is one hell of a coach, but I think he will be with us through the 2007 season. Are you watching Charlie Frye and all the free pub we get when they mention that he is a Akron Zip? Di you catch the reference to UA made by the announcers during the OSU-Texas game? Let's enjoy the ride and be "fearless" about the challenges that come frombeing at the top of the MAC.

I agree with all what you said... There is however, one more missing piece for Akron to be the goal of talented people and that is: "People"The games should be sold out... the RB should always be sold out and so should the JAR be and Soccer and the campus should always be alive and rocking.

LOL - "30,000 or so people would be nice. You are right -- we gotta get folks to appreciate all that we now have. We live in a great community centered by an great university with great, affordable sports. Live it up Akron -- don't you think NC State folks would give their right arms to have what we have.

And this is exactly why we need to pay JD and KD well - to keep on attracting high performing coaches to our profile head coaching openings. If JD or Dambrot feels the administration is messing with them, and they are successful and leave, it will be "known" in the coaching world. No one will touch either one of these jobs without first calling JD or KD and asking about how this admin is to work for and if they are willing to pay them what they deserve.I also think if Mack gets the stadium project finished he will also be on a lot of short lists. Remember, even though Thomas and co. set it up with excellent hires in fb and mbb, the great marketing, the new fieldhouse, and a hunk of the money already raised for the stadium, Mack's going to be seen as the closer and probably look desirable to many other schools.I've accepted that we're a stepping stone school, now I just want us to do the things that will continue to attract the best and the brightest on their way up.

I am sure that Mack knows what he has. He talked glowingly about KD in the pregame even though the original question was about womens bball. This year will show a lot to JD and KD. If we start getting 25K a game and 5K a game in bball, they may stay and really help build something special. Maybe that is wishful thinking and I doubt anyone would hold grudges if they left, but I think we have 2 special people here.

i think we have a good chance that if jd has a good year this year he will be gone.i hope im wrong, but no matter what we pay him it's a reality. our athletic budgets cant come closer to bcs schools. they get huge tv revenue money that they can throw at coaches.im not saying jd does not deserve big money. just saying that i am not the one that has to pay for it.akron does ,and football is not a money maker for any mac school. just the reality of the mac football programs.
