ZipAlumn
no comment just that, today was pathetic at best Today was a wake up call .... not only for the coaches and the team, but also all the Zips fans. We were never as good as we thought we were on Friday, just like we aren't as bad as we looked on Saturday. This team needs to come together and play four quarters like winners, and not depend on those 4th quarter drives to win a game. I like the "never say quit" attitude that this team has. I really hate the "don't worry, we don't have to play hard to win" attitude that they seem to exhibit at least a quarter or two during the game. Hopefully we learned something today and will turn it around for the Cincinnati game. If not it will be a very long season. And speaking of long seasons, what up with the men's Soccer team, other than they can't put the ball in the net?
liljc
The Zips played a game like that one last season, too. Remember the Army game? They used it as motivation to pull it all together and turn the season around. Can JD and his staff do it again? How about the players, the seniors, especially? I think it now becomes a test of pride.
akronad
PATHETIC is an understatement. Not only were we outplayed, we outcoached. Even though I am a JD proponent, look at his w/l record which is hovering around .500. If we are become a force in the MAC we need to win games, whether it is (was) Lee Owens, J.D. Brookhart or another coach. IMHO I would give JD another season (next), and if things don't get better, maybe we should be looking for someone else. Blue & Gold
I don't think we can pull it together after that game. Even if we win out everyone will remember the butt-kicking given to us by our arch-rival. Demoralizing. Embarrassing. We really have not shot at winning the MAC East now. With losses to CMU and Can't State there is no way we're getting an at-large bowl bid. We still have to play Toledo and Western Michigan. Not good. Buckzip
Anyone that thinks we should get rid of JD needs to stop posting here.He is still a very young coach. i feel a lot of people put too much into last season. We still are a young team that is trying to get better. He still is mostly using the old regimes players. I think this game was a great learning experience for him. I too think he took Can't a little lightly. He will be fine. It takes time to build a winning program.
akronad
How many years to we give JD? 5, 10? By most standards, 4 years is the barometer. How long do we want a .500 coach? He needs to start winning and be more consistent. Lose a game, win game, is not making a winning program. As far as posting goes, as long as the moderator(s) let me speak my mind, I shall!!!!!!!!!!!!!By the way, I'm not a Johnny-come-lately. I have a supporter and booster of Zip Athletics for over 25 years.

ZachTheZip
JD has said many times that he had a 4-year plan coming into Akron. We are early into year three. The season is still salvageable. A bowl game is still a possibility. This year we will likely go 3-1 out of conference, which is an amazing acheivement regardless of who we play, when you think about how we've played before JD came to town. Next year will be the true test because a good chunk of our starting players are graduating. Wait until then to see if JD's system is working or not. Even with an extremely young team, in what could possibly be considered a rebuilding year, we should have moderate success if his system is working. Buckzip
Not every coach wins a NC in their second year like Stoops and Tressel. He needs at least 4 years to start to assemble a good team. Once we see a team full of his recruits then we will get a better read on him.
