AK-Zips Posted October 10, 2006 Report Posted October 10, 2006 With everything taken into consideration and injuries and eligibility i would say that a solid 20+ win regular season should not be a big surprise at all. By my calculations we will only play a maximum of 31 regular season games, maybe less, depending on the CBE classic. So, 30 wins is probably out of the picture unless we don't make the NCAA tournament, wind up in the NIT and run the table... Anyway, at this point in the preseason i would predict a record of 22-8 playing in only 30 games because Texas Tech will beat us at in Lubbock which mean we will beat up on Tiffin for the TBA game on the 19th at home. I think that is a pretty fair assessment of the squad.I am reluctant to post my win/loss prediction because we will win games that we shouldn't and lose some that we shouldn't. It works both ways to even itself out but on our way to a MAC regular season and post-season title here goes...Oral Roberts, UIC, Nevada, Ohio, Miami, Toledo, Buffalo, Can't.With the MAC tournament this should put us at 25-8 entering the tournament. Regardless of the automatic MAC bid we will get in (even if we lose the title game and wind up 24-9).There you have it folks... Now DISCUSS!!! Quote
zipsbandman Posted October 10, 2006 Report Posted October 10, 2006 I for one cannot wait for basketball season. MAC basketball is so much more exciting than MAC football. The thing that worries me about our team is our size. Whenever we played bigger teams, we always got in foul trouble for that reason. That is our achilles heal this season. Can't is going to be tough. They are our biggest obstacle for a championship. They reload. After this football season's debacle, I refuse to join the hype. However, I'm excited to see what some new faces bring to the table this year. We play cupkakes. We'll win our 20 games, but will we win 'em when it counts in Cleveland? Quote

I think there was a big difference between last year's football and basketball seasons...the football team was up and down throughout and red hot towards the end, while the basketball team was pretty good throughout, until their 2nd half collapse in the MAC tourney. As for the size issue, I firmly believe we would've defeated Can't State last year at Can't had Wood been healthy. He isn't that big but he plays big, and is an excellent rebounder. A healthy Jeremiah Wood is going to do wonders for this team, and should help Travis quite a bit as well. Quote
zip37 Posted October 11, 2006 Report Posted October 11, 2006 SIZE COUNTS IN A LOT OF THINGS BUT IS NOT THE SOLE DETERMINATION IN BB; QUICKNESS TO THE BOARDS, PLAYING THE WEAK SIDE FOR R;BOUNDS AND A DESIRE FOR THE BALL COUNT FOR A QHOLE LOT. DON'T RULE OUT BARDO-- HE IS HUGE.WITH BALL AMMUNITION LOCK AND LOAD.AND AS USUAL AND Quote
hoopla Posted October 13, 2006 Report Posted October 13, 2006 I think that this Zips team will have a good turnout. 26 wins is where they will stand I believe. And I believe that is a minimum for the Zips. It could be better with the additions of Conyers and a healthy Wood and Dials. Then you add Travis and Joyce to finish out the starting five this is a deadly lineup. Then bringing the likes of a Milum, Middleton, and Linhart off the bench. This is a very good team if they can pull it together for the full season and not take nights off or quit playing before the final horn as they showed last season. With the depth and the experience of Joyce and Dials in the backcourt I believe this will no longer be a problem for the Zips in the up and coming year. This is a year to be excited about. Quote

Charles_in_Charge Posted October 13, 2006 Report Posted October 13, 2006 Add in that McKnight and Conyers will rack it out for Rookie of the Year in the MAC. Quote
dialsfan11 Posted October 13, 2006 Report Posted October 13, 2006 With the Cavs preseason games starting, I'm reminded of my favorite time of year. Zips basketball will surely be something special this season. So after awhile away I'm returning to weigh in on the predictions.I have two different predictions; optimistic and realistic. First for the optimistic. This team is capable of being a huge shocker this season. After the CBE Classic we could see ourselves in the top 25. Yes that means I honestly believe KD will have his team ready to go and surprise Texas Tech. Call me crazy but I just think with our talent we can do it. I will be talking to KD in about an hour and let him know what I think. With that big win I think this team is more than capable of going 24-6 and remaining in the top 25 for at least most of the season. Now for the realistic prediction. For once the realistic guess isn't too far from the optimistic. The team will definately have over 20 wins in the regular season. There are games in there that could trip us up and cause us to win only 21 or we could get 24. It all depends on unforseen events that we don't know yet. Either way one thing is sure not just the MAC but the entire country will learn toFEAR THE ROO!!Go Zips and as always Quote
